Because it's often easier to blame the one who is abused than to admit that people whom you are close too are sick and demented, and that you allowed the abuse to occur.Plus by casting out the person who has forced the ugliness to the surface prevents them from having to deal with it.Ignorance is bliss?

There is one person that plays this role in every single family. Move on. The best way to get back at them is to be better then them and rise above. Good luck

Maybe ur family is so agaisnt the whole leaving your husband and disrespecting him. That why they dont see that you did the right thing. if they cant realize that then you dont need to be aparart of people who arent going to look out for your best intrest. Be confident in your decisions and in time if they really love you and know they are being stupid they will come around and if they dont then u know they werent ment to be in your lives. i wish u luck!

BellaDonna, a similar thing happened to me when I left my abusive ex husband. Neither side of the family (!!!???) would believe me that he really was! Write me, if you like, at fmosconi@aol.com -- it is a very hard thing. Losing them for no reason over stupid misconceptions and closed-mindedness hurt more than losing him after 20 yrs.

You broke the code of silence,it sound like you didn't have much of a family to lose anyway but I'm sure you feel it around the holidays.

It's because it is generally accepted in your family, and is something that is okay or beneficial to them. Even though you were raised in this family, you trully weren't, you were raised by society in which what your family did was wrong. Your family doesn't see you as one of their own anymore, sorry.

All these answers are correct. You have to get on with your life without worrying about your non-accepting family until they come to their senses.
