I HAVE BEEN IN YOUR SHOES, MY DAUGHTER WILL BE 5 MONTHS DEC. 4 AND SHE DID THE SAME THING. WHAT MY HUSBAND AND I DID WAS TOOK HER FOR CAR RIDES OR PUT HER ON MY LEG AND SHOOK MY LEG. SHE GOT SO SLEEPY SHE STARTED HURTING, THAT IS WHAT HAPPENS TO US WHEN WE DON'T GET ENOUGH SLEEP WE HURT SO OF COURSE IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO THEM... TRY TO MAKE HIM AS HAPPY AS HE CAN GET EVEN IF IT MEANS TURNING ON A BRIGHT LIGHT OR TAKING FOR A CAR RIDE OR SHAKING YOUR LEG. SOMETIMES MY DAUGHTER WOULD WAKE UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT BECAUSE SHE WAS MAD THAT SHE WENT TO SLEEP AND ALWAYS BE PATIENT, LOVING AND UNDERSTANDING TO HIM...YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO TAKE IT ALL AWAY. YOU TAKE AWAY THE HUNGER YOU CLEAN HIM UP AND HE THINKS YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO TAKE THE PAIN AWAY TOO (IF HE IS HURTING) AND REALLY ALL YOU CAN DO IS GIVE HIM A LITTLE TYLENOL AND TRY TO COMFORT HIM...

My wife and I have developed a routine that seems to help. However, you may need to keep him up more during the day to promote a true tiredness that will teach him the difference between nite and day. Two days ago we let our 3 1/2 month old sleep too much...he did what you are describing... until 1:30am.

I took him Christmas shopping with me yesterday. I allowed him an hour and a half nap before noon, but other then that, 15 to 30 minute snoozes, kept him going till 730pm when he got his nightly "tubby". After his bath momma is waiting to nurse him around 8pm. By 9pm he is usually down for the nite till about 4 am ( we have slowly gotten to this 7 hour interval.) This is our current routine.

He wakes up at about 4 am and I heat up a bottle and feed him while momma pumps. (If she nursed at nite she'd still have to pump because of her excess production, so my feeding him speeds up the nitely feeding.) We go back to bed and he wakes around 8am for the day. I think the biggest thing for anyone is judging how much to let a baby sleep during the day and then giving the baby a routine at nite that says "Hey its bed time now!"

Try to set a routine for every night. He'll learn that it's normal to be sleepy and expect to go to sleep. For the nights when he's fighting it, try a car ride, or put him in his car seat and set it on top of a running dryer.

Be sure to turn the end of cycle buzzer off!!!

And don't leave him alone - sometimes the vibrations of the dryer will move the car seat around on the top a bit.

We used to call the car ride trick "The snooze cruise".

Probably a little overtired. Try a sling, swing, stroller, car ride, co-sleeping etc. Whatever works. (Now is not the time to worry about bad sleep habits! Not sleeping is the worst habit)

Or it could be gas pains, maybe try grip water or ovol drops. And even though I am generally against drugging kids you could try some tylenol if he is old enough for it. (Just in case it is a pain of some kind).

I watch my nephew a lot. I started laying down with him because he is like this. But believe me it will be a lasting thing. He is 3 and it is still the same thing everyday. Naps, bedtime. But it only takes five to ten minutes usually. A bath might relax him, a night light maybe? Hope this helps.

Yeah, its normal. Just pat his back as he is sleeping. Kids always think they are going to miss something in this world so they hate to go to bed. Just be ready to pat his back for a half an hour and just be patient. My oldest daughter AND son had to be patted to sleep or 20-30 minutes for about 2 years for each of them and uddenly they just grew out of it.

try giving him a bath before putting him to bed, that worked for my son. Does he have a pacifier or a favorite toy, blanket he could sleep with. Sometimes those things will make them feel secure.

Try a warm bath, or a car ride, soothing music, or just laying down with him and letting him sleep next to you.
