I'm a former NICU nurse, and have a lot of inexpensive ideas, one try going to a toy store with reasonable prices and looking at their cabbage patch doll clothing, a lot of my babies parents did that.
Any kind of inexpensive "doll" clothes are great, cabbage patch best, as they have more boy stuff.
I'm unsure if you can contact me back, but if so I'd be glad to throw out a few other ideas that may be way better economically.

JC Penney's has preemie clothes, also Wal-Mart. I don't know about your financial state...resale shops, some specialize in baby stuff...clothes, furniture. The hopspital does have a gown...usually they are to big. The hospital where I live will let you put your own clothes on the baby the majority of the time. They look better to because they fit. Call your local hospital, ask for the baby floor and talk with the nurse and ask her if you can bring your own clothes for the baby. As for where to buy preemie clothes usually anywhere that you can buy baby clothes. Hope this helps. Have fun with your baby!! They are so much joy!!

I have a preemie. In the hosp they usually wear just diaper. Clothes can just get in the way. The best place we found clothes were at Walmart in the baby doll section. They have all kind of cute and cheap clothes that fit on the real life looking dolls. Check it out and you can also go into fancy pet stores and find shirts. the best place I found was in the doll sections at stores like Toys R us. Good luck

A friend of mine had a preemie years ago and she used to get "Cabbage Patch" doll clothes for her little girl. You might try Toys R Us in the doll aisle. If your baby is still in hospital you will need to ask the staff if it is ok to bring in something for the baby to wear other than a diaper. But again "Cabbage Patch" clothes will work probably. When my daugther stayed over 7 days I took in tee shirts every day to change her into because they requested nothing they had to unsnapp or unbotton, (in case of an emergency). I embroidered tee shirts will little sayings on them prior to her birth.

I have a son in the NICU who weighs just over 3#. I just bought some adorable things at WalMart in preemie sizes. At the hospital he is at, he will be able to wear them as soon as he is off the ventilator which we hope will be in a week or so.
Hope that helps, good luck!!

Babies r Us now has a nice assortment of premie clothing. Any baby store would probably be able to order things for you.
You didn't say how small the baby is, but remember, except for the ultra-premies (less that 3 1/2 lbs or so) are going to grow rather quickly and will be in regular newborn things soon. I would invest in maybe 3 or 4 outfits at first and see how it goes with the baby gaining weight. As for whether they can wear "clothes from home" - ask the nurses. Some, like babies being treated for jaundice with bili-lights, need to have as much of their skin as possible exposed to the lights to help them get rid of the excess bilirubin.
My best to you and your baby.

I think that they sell preemie clothes at ToysRUs, so I'm almost positive they would have them at Baby'sRUS. I just looked at Walmart's website and they do have Preemie clothes too.

Try either Babies R Us or Walmart.
In the hospital, it would probably depend on their policy for clothing the child.
