We just got one and I am somewhat worried because I see underwater for a while.

What if she gets trapped under the dock we got for her? Will she be able to make it until we get home from work?

During hibernation, they can breath underwater for a couple months at a time, however the usual underwater time is about 20 minutes.

They can get trapped underwater and drown pretty easily in some tanks. It is up to us as keepers to design the tank so this does not happen. You can glue small stones inside gaps, etc. to make it really hard for the turtle to get trapped.

If youre talking about survival, sliders can spend hours under water. When I first started trapping turtles, my traps just sat in shallow water near the shore. One day it rained and when I went the next day to check the trap, it was completely submerged. When I pulled the trap out, there was 1 RES in the trap and he immediately opened his mouth like he was gasping for air. I dont know exactly how long he was in there, but I imagine it was 12 hours or more. He was marked and released. From then on, I always make traps with floatation devices so a portion of the trap is always above the surface.

They do not breathe under water. They can however hold their breath for a long time. They can even sleep underwater.

in the event that they are youthful you would not have a situation keeping them mutually in the beginning up compatibility-smart, yet you may desire to be certain you have adequate space for them later while they get super (as much as twelve inches of shell each and each!). while you're determining to purchase the two as adults from a puppy save, it somewhat is somewhat helpful to visual reveal unit and be certain which you do not %. 2 enormously aggressive turtles. in case you have had one for a protracted time and are introducing yet another into the tank, you pick to be very careful. the guy who has been there longer will likely prepare signs and indicators of territorial aggression, wherein case one turtle will finally end up attacked and/or ineffective (i don't understand how usually the latter happens, yet turtles do combat). see you later as you hold the tank sufficiently super (i could say a minimum of fifty 5 gallons for the two) and verify they don't combat, they could be ok. you could feed them in separate packing containers once you're frightened approximately them being grasping over nutrients, yet once you start up doing this, you may desire to maintain doing it, as they are going to conflict it out as quickly as you start up feeding them mutually.
