Yes, you can substitute. You can use white, or any other color for that matter.

I am not 100% positive on this, but I believe that a friend of mine has melted crayons onto her candles to change the outer layer of the candles. I dunno, you could try it?

And as someone else said, you don't really need to use candles anyway. It's all just props to help you focus. And there are many other ways to do spells.

There are meanings associated with each color. You can always substitute a white candle, If you don't have the appropiate color. The important thing to remember here is your intention.

Props are good and wonderful and help you focus your energy and thoughts, but there is no law that says using a black candle instead of red for a spell to bring you love won't work. It's what you think about, your intention, and things of that nature.

You may substitute a white color candle for any color you do not have. I have had to do this many times. Every Wiccan/Pagan book I have ever read said to use a white candle.
