Most likely a clogged jet ,probably the pilot jet.It could also be an air leak. Does the idle get higher as the bike gets hotter(that is a sign of an air leak. It could also be a mis-adjustment of the fuel air mixture screw.*** Do a plug test ,pull your float bowl and clean the jets, and replace the intake manifold gaskets. 3 hours and $10.00 .%90 likelyhood your problem will be solved. My wife rode a 883 Sporster and it did the same thing. But only when it was not warmed up properly.

More than likely you've got a patially clogged pilot jet. Clean out your jets ,and check it again. Air leaks at the intake or VOES can cause this too. Check your rubber or just replace it,if it has not been done it's time.

My husband is a huge Harley fan and does most of his own maintenance. He's not sure about your problem without more details, but says that sometimes they just do that when they're cold.
