I know that Piano is short for Pianoforte, but would you say Pianoforte when saying it in English, because it's the same in Italian.
So what i'm really asking is if it's proper to say Pianoforte in English, even if it's not the most common way to say it

cyanne,
I know that it's the most common way, but would it still be proper english if I said Pianoforte instead?

Pianoforte is actually an oxymoron. Piano means soft and forte means loud. But hey, jumbo shrimp is proper English, so I have no clue.

It is proper to say it in english as one would say that a piece was written for pianoforte (which is soft loud as the piano was the first keyboard instrucment that you could control the volumn.)

Check out pianobible.com for more piano stuff and chord photos.

No one will know what you are talking about if you say pianoforte. Everyone calls it piano, so why do you want to call it pianoforte?
