I started a cocktail waitressing job about a month now, and i never really make enough as i expect BECAUSE i have customers who won't quit saying "excuse me miss, come over here for a second, can i ask u a question? what is your name, where are you from, and blah blah blaah". and during the time i answer their questions..i could be taking OTHER drink orders to get higher sales and more tips. But i don't want to be mean, so i try to talk to them as much as i can.
Then i have other people asking me for my number, and yada yada yada. and telling me to call them, over and over and over again.
My customers tell me i'm nicer than the other waitresses, because instead of asking "what would u like to drink?" over and over again. i ask them "how are you doing this weekend?" and they tell me i actually conversate with them..instead of always trying to "HUSTLE" their money.
And yes, it makes me happy that they think i'm the nicest waitress there, BUT i'm ALSO there to make money!

the girl i work with, i don't know her secret, but she made drinks sales of $400, and $150 in tips for only a 6 hour shift.

And as far as me (the "nice girl") i didn't even make nearly HALF of what she made, because i waste my time trying to be "nice" and talk to people. some which don't leave me tips at all.

.::sigh::. what to do?

Ignore them Sweety; if you wanna make money! You can tell 1 or 2, at most, that you can't there are others who need you also! You can also say, "these guys are bigger tippers!" You have to decide what's more important being waitress #1 or dollars! Good luck Sweety! I'm probably gonna regret saying this

Some places want you to leave change right away. Just try to remember who gave it to you and tell them you'll return with their change soon. If coins are involved... Just try to give coin change first and count the dollars up to what the bill that was given. It's kinda hard to explain on here... but it would be your simplest way.

I've been a waitress f/ 11yrs. Learn how to shut them up politely in a smooth way. Don't be scared to use it, just say the word EXCUSE ME! I will be right back with you.

Start HUSTLING. Sure, you can say "Hi, how are you doing?" but you need to keep the chatting to a minimum unless they're tipping you good. If you've chatted up someone in the past and t they didn't leave a good tip, quit talking to them so much this time. Chat up the people who tip you or don't chat too much because "NICE" DOESN'T PAY THE RENT!

avoid pain in the butt customer and watch your customer so you can do things like hiting them up when their glass is empty, or with a date they are trying to impress.
