I'm guessing its a livebearer probably molly or platy, easiest way is to look at the pelvic fins, the males have it modified to form a gonopodium whereaes the femals do not. It is possible however that the femal was "pregnant" when you bought her if it is a relatively recent purchase. Parents will likely consume the young if they aren't seperated.

I would guess you probably have platties if they had babies and you didnt mean to (from your description) On any live bearing fish you can look at the last fin under the fish's belly before the tail, girl fish have a triangle looking fin and boy fish have a fin that looks like a tube or stick. The girl's fin will be flat looking like the rest of her fins and the boy fin will be like it is round and held against the body

the reason they are all black is because normally the babies will look like the "dad".i think u can and cannot put the big fishes together. i did tat to one of my fish and my smaller fish died because the bigger fish is so much bigger than the small fish. it depends on size and mouth size. i would think tat u can put the babies and its "parents" together because the parents know that they are there babies. i wouldnt prefer to put the small fish with other bigger fishes besides its parents.

usually bigger bellied fish are female, with some eth females will have rounded dorsal fins and the males will have pointed ones!
