I had trouble breastfeeding both my children but wanted to give them brestmilk at least until i went back to work. It may also be handy to have for in between feedings to aide in producing more milk (the more you fed/pump the more mil you produce). If you receive WIC (something you may find a big plus if you qualify for it) they will loan you a hospital quality pump to use..definite bonus ;)! Do your homework on breast pumps now before the baby is born so you can find one that is right for you..Good luck!! As far as the baby carrier is concerned..I had one for my first son and they are nice for use while shopping and such because you can have the baby close to you but have both hands free..some are also designed to be able to use while breast feeding. One downfall is sometimes they are tricky to get the baby in and out of.....also you get hot and sore from carrying the baby on you if you carry the baby in it for too long (reminisent of being 8 moths prego all over again..arrrggghhhh..lol) They are nice to have but until you get use to it you may want to have Daddy or a friend help you get the baby in and out of it. Hope this helped .

You don't necessarily need a pump, that's just so you can pump extra milk while your baby's not feeding. If you're having trouble producing enough milk, the pump might help with that too, the more you feed or pump, the more milk there will be. The baby carrier? I don't understand why you would need that for breast feeding. But it helps to carry your baby around, mine slept in it while I did my chores. Good luck!

baby carrier - YES! You need one. I love our baby bjorn. Our daughter loves being close to us (on us, really). I put her in the baby carrier around the house to get stuff done (laundry, making a quick bite, etc.). It's awesome because she still gets to be close to me and it keeps her from being fussy. It's also convenient when we go to the store. I can wear her and push a grocery cart. I would not be able to function well with out it!
(Make sure you get one appropriate for the age of your baby - Baby Bjorns are awesome. We got a sling, too and she hates it and I think it's uncomfortable. (She also tends to spit up when she's in it).

pump - My daughter is exclusively breastfeed and we have the Avent uno. (I wish I would have gotten the duo). I pumped in the beginning to relieve engorgement. I pump now to store milk for when she has a baby sitter and when I'm at work. The pump helps me do other stuff so I can go out and not worry about how my baby's getting fed. She will never use formula and the pump ensures that for us.

Get both - but check eopinions.com and other consumer sites for other items on the market

you only need a pump,if your going to put the milk in bottles to store or your breast become to full, at which you can freeze the milk in bottles at a later time, i'm not certin of the store time of breast milk...and holding the baby is better when your feeding..

You only need a pump if you plan on having breastmilk around when you're not. It's a good idea, but not exactly a necessity.
