well, its not one yet. im almost 39 weeks pregnant and my inlaws, husband and i were planning to go to a bakestball game on dec 2, and if im still pregnant im not going cuz its a big game and it would more than likely seen me into labor and its about an hr away from my hospital, but any way, if i do have him before then, would i be able to pump? the game is next saturday and i dont think the real milk would be in, in time. how long does it take for the real milk to come in? would it be safe to pump the colostrum or pre milk? I didnt have to worry about it with my first until 2 wks later. with pumping

you can pump the colostrum, i had to with my daughter she is special needs and didnt have the strength to latch on, i am wondering tho if perhaps if you took a blanket and sat at the back you could latch the baby on discreetly, i never fed my kids in public but it is natural i cant see it offending anyone, if someone does notice and have a problem then they can always look away

You can pump colostrum as early as your babies birth. It depends on the mother but it takes about 1 week for you milk to come in.

I think your are right in not wanting to go... I wouldn't either if the game was that far away from my hospital and doctor. You milk doesn't come in for about 3 days after you have the baby usually, I dunno about pumping colostrum. Honestly, if I was you, I would just forgo the game and stay with the baby. Then you wouldn't have to worry about it.

Is this your first baby?

Just wondering because that first week after you have a baby is a little rough..bleeding and lack of sleep, leaky breasts and all. You may not even be up to going ;)

Feed your baby in public. Many lactation helpers don't recommend pumping before 4-6 weeks so you baby doesn't get "nipple" confusion (it takes a different kind of sucking between breast and bottle)

Good luck!

You can pump colostrum, but why should you even bother with that stress? Everyone at the game is going to be too engrossed to notice that you are breastfeeding.....save yourself the trouble. Sounds like he/she is being born into a "sport-oriented" family, so he/she should be very much "at home"...LOL!

Stand up for your rights and feed the kid there. Especially when the other team has the ball.

It's not that hard to discreetly breastfeed in public places. Why be uptight about it?
