i usually try to get away from them by getting into a different lane. i've already been rear ended once and that was enough.

They have various reasons, none of them good. Most think that they are better drivers with better cars. They don't respect your right to be on the road (especially not in front of them). Too many use their cars as their only source of power. God forbid they should misjudge a turn in the road or you might slow down or have to stop short. These drivers are the ones who have multiple accidents or really bad ones. I would say they were just stupid but it wouldn't give you all the reasons. They are, as you said, jerks. I wish the police would give these type of drivers more tickets.

Answer: They aren't thinking.
Here's a trick that works during the day: Turn on your lights. When the reds come on behind you, they think you are hitting the brakes.
Do NOT hit the brakes. Many people will tell you rear-end collision = you win. This is not always true, you simply have the advantage.

People see drafting in Nascar races and think the same applies on the interstate. Or they believe (foolishly) that if 2 cars are going over the speed limit in tandem, the lead car get popped first.

They are ignorant. It's as simple as that. The best way to handle a situation like this is to slam on your brakes when they least expect it. The person who hits you in the rear is usually always at fault.

I don't know but I hate them. I usually just sit on cruise and if they want to pass they can or they can just ride my bumper. Sometimes I just slow down. They are wreckless idiots.

You hit it on the head -- they are NOT thinking! My sis-in-law is a terrible tail gater and she has no idea she is doing it. Scares me to ride with her. Try "break checking" those who tail gate you. This happened to my husband once and he backed off after I explained to him what the driver was doing! lol

I have no idea but it is very rude and they will not get there any quicker and may not end up getting to their destination at all with that kind of behavior. I do not like it either...they need to chill!

you answered it, they are jerks, and they do not think.
In most states, If you rear end some one, you are at fault.
So, If some one hits you in the rear, and you happen to be doing the speed limit, the final choise is yours as to what you will do about it.
