how would you historically link the plow with gunpowder?

From any number of angles. Both require the use of metal. The plow -self explanatory, the gunpowder, to control it's excessively rapid rate of burn, thus making it useful for weaponry.

On the thought of weaponry, realestate has often times been the primary cause of war. The plow'share has been used to clear land, thus making it more valuable to it's owner. Gunpowder then was/is used to separate the owner from the land...

The Chinese were the first to invent gunpowder and have for ages, been very much an aggricultural nation relying on the plow to ffed its people while the gunpowder has been used both to protect its people as well as to celebrate various occasions across the land.
