what makes their crime worse than any other person who was sentenced to life? (which is arguably, worst than death, the torture etc...)

I have never seen a more straight-forward question on Y!. It makes me believe more firmly that there are some questions that can't be answered categorically. They can only be answered relatively. The compassionate answer is that all people believe that what they do is justified, if not right or legal. Since right is often a matter of opinion, and legal is always a matter of consensus, it is valid to argue that imposing a death sentence is a bit much, given its finality compared to the somewhat random (not the best word) way it is arrived at. On the other hand, society has the duty and the right to protect itself from its members who wantonly choose not to abide by its rules, and believe that they alone have the right to decide what's right and wrong. Thus when a serious crime is committed, such as murder, society has always, instinctively and logically, felt that the punishment must fit the crime, in fairness to the victim and his survivors. In a society somewhere in the future, with unlimited resources to spend on the issue, such malfeasance will be viewed as a mental problem, and will be treated as such. Until then, I am afraid that we will have to accept the idea that "Hamurabi's Code" will be applied to seriously deviant behavior.

I think life is something precious and that no one deserves to die. Why, u ask?...well first and foremost it on one really wants to go to a place whose fate is not known for instance,is there really a heaven and hell somewhere and where is one really likely to land?secondly, the trauma and heartache that will linger in the hearts of the people you love is quite unbearable and i dont believe there are people who would like to cause their loved ones even there enemies such pain. But hey!what if the existence of someone in this world causes more harm than good,as in am talking of rapists, murderers and the likes its only fair that they pay for the suffering they have caused to people, here i mean those rapists and murderers that have actually been proven guilty.

No person has the right to take the life of another (barring self defense of course). Quite frankly, if you think it's ever right to put someone to death, then you have no "standards" in the first place.

Some people do deserve to die, think about what they did to someone else or what they will do if left living.
