In my state abandonment means absolutely no contact...including phone calls. I would consult an attorney and get assistance from them. If you cannot afford an attorney as they are quite expensive for family court law, you can always contact your local courthouse and ask them if they can lead you to legal aide or to any legal counsel who does cases pro bono, meaning without compensation. There are legal assistance programs out there. There are different rules in each state as to when abandonment can be filed. You may find your state's online by going to www.state.(your state's abbreviation here).com and in the keyword, enter family law or child custody. Not all states put that information up though. If that fails you could do a search on google for child abandonment laws in (insert your state's name here). By looking online prior you could save yourself some money with an attorney by making sure you actually need one first. I feel your pain, my ex moves from state to state to avoid paying child supprt and ignores his children that we have together. It's heartbreaking to see the way they ignore and neglect their children who are truly pieces of them. All men like that should be gathered up and forced to walk around with big signs in their hands stating they are low lifes without hearts who have neglected their children and then if their behavior continues after that face possible castration (I'm sure castration would definitely straighten them out and the thought of that alone would make them stand up and be fathers and if not then it would insure they couldn't have anymore children to neglect in the future!). I bet if they made men who leave and ignore their children face public humiliation like that there'd be fewer of them!! lol

If you cant hire an attorney you can try to do it on your own. Call the local court house and see if they can help you....even better see if they have a website and see if you can find out that way_
