I'm all for the Flames, but i live in Sharks-land, so no one agrees. This guy i know has been proving to me a million times over that the sharks, according to him, are better than the flames.
So, I was hoping for ideas that could prove my point, that the Calgary Flames are waaayyy better.
any and all ideas are welcomed and appreciated!!!!!!!!!
Thanx!!!! :)

Although I agree with everyones point on why the Flames are better then the Sharks...

I do believe EVERYONE forgot one very important fact.

In the 2003-2004 playoffs...western conference finals....Let me ask you...

WHO kicked WHOSE a§§ to become the Western Conference Champions...???

Thats right...the Flames kicked the Sharks a§§....

I think that pretty much covers it...Thank you.

GO FLAMES GO...

First I'll go with some numbers. Calgary (80 points, home record 20-10-5, away record 14-16-7, last 10 games are 6-3-1, and lost their last game). San Jose (82 points, home record 21-11-3, away record 15-14-7, last 10 games are 4-3-3, and are on a two game winning streak). Calgary's point leader is Jarome Iginla. He has 31 goals, 31 assists for 62 points in 72 games played this season. San Jose's point leader is Joe Thorton. He has 16 goals, 52 assists for 68 points in 71 games played. Both Calgary and San Jose could make the playoffs this season because that part of the Western Conference is really close. San Jose is in 8th place while Calgary sits in 11th with only 2 points seperating them. The overall better team is San Jose. But my choice out of these two would be Calgary.

If you're talking the current season, the Sharks are ahead of the
Flames in the conference standings. Calgary is better defensively, but San Jose has a better offense. In terms of alltime, Calgary has been to the Stanley Cup Finals three times (1986, 1989, 2004), winning in 1989. The Sharks have never been to the Stanley Cup Finals during their history. Last season, the Sharks reached the conference semifinal, but they lost to the Oilers. The Oilers beat the Ducks in the conference final in 2006, not the Sharks, to the person who made that comment. Calgary lost in the first round to Anaheim in seven games. If you're talking
alltime success, point to their alltime record, not this season and last season's playoffs, where the Sharks were the better team. The Flames were a higher seed last season in the playoffs, and
had more points than the Sharks during the regular season last year.

Well, I would have to disagree and say that the Sharks are in fact, better than Flames. I am an avid Sharks fan, but even if I weren't I would still say that the Sharks are better as a team. If you take away Iginla and Kiprusoff, then the Flames aren't much to talk about, but the Sharks have substantially more depth in their offense. Another thing that jumps out to me is that the Flames have a conspicuous lack of a number one center, something which the Sharks have TWO of. It is very true that Kipper is a great goalie (and I'm still bitter about the trade, I loved him...), and he is arguably the best goalie in the league. One aspect that the Flames are better in is their defense, but don't say that the Sharks don't have a solid defense, as Scott Hannan is a big name in himself, and Matt Carle is going to be phenomenal in a few years. If you truly need to say that the Flames are better, just bring up Dion Phaneuf or Jarome Iginla (if you bring up Kiprusoff then you might not make it out of there alive). Iginla is one of the greatest leaders and players in the game, and he very well deserves the 7 million a year. Regardless of all of that, if you live in Sharks territory though, no matter what team you like the Sharks fans will say that the Sharks are better, just be glad that you are not a Stars or Oilers fan!

San Jose, well you do have a solid squad this year I will give you that. Good move with Thorton last year and another with Mark Bell this year. But.... You guys do not have a franchise like the flames.

Goaltending: Mikka Kippersoff was your guy's trash a few years back and we picked him up and he has excelled ever since becoming arguebly the best goaltender in the world right now. He is a brick wall. Nabokov is slowly turning into the back up in San jose while the realitvely new Toskala is taking over, neither of these boys uphold the skill and composure of Kipper.

The sharks defence has no big names to talk about, Scott Hannan is a let down for a first round draft pick, McLaren is from my neck of the woods and is average at best. Your defences lacks leadership with most everyone in the line-up only playing 2-3 years in the show. Calgary's defence is the backbone to our franchise we take pride in our blueliners, Dion Phanuef is my era's Scott Stevens, as we've got Hamrlik & Regher who play a major part in the great play of our star Mikka Kippersoff.

As for offense you guys for electricity and star power are by far more well endowed, with guys like Thorton, Cheechoo, Marleau and a future star in Milan Michalek. But as for balls and a major leadership role Iginla fits the bill to a tee. Why do u think he gets 7 Million a year, because of balls, grit, and being able to put the puck in the net. The addition of Alex Tanguay makes us have a deadly 1-2 punch which can and will be a force

I'm a really big flames fan, so i have a few ideas:
The flames have way better goal tending - better in the long run.
They hit, sharks don't.
Miika doesn't choke.
Iginla is one of the best players in the NHL, not based on stats, but on making everyone around him better.

Sorry, right now the Sharks are better. Hockey is a long season and you should wait at least until the allstar break before determining who is better. A good come back could be "how many Cups have your Sharks won" ? we have two!

Sharks better. Thorton and Cheechoo led them to a Confrence final last year. Calgar didn't make it past the Quarter finals.

Sorry but you gotta check the standings. San Jose is 4th while Flames are in 10th place in the Western Division.

They aren't. Sharks are better. Cheechoo, Thorton , Marleau and TWO great goalies, not one.
