A few years ago, I found a wallet in Greenwich Park (South London). It only contained a few quid, a credit card and some documents but I figured I would hand it in. The ranger station was closed but no problem - I could drop it into the police station on my way round. The police station was closed so I hung on to the wallet until I got near home and took it into my local police station. Here, I found a queue and was invited to take a number and wait my turn. After a couple of minutes, a girl and her boyfriend came in screaming blue murder. Apparently, she had had her bum pinched in the pub and demanded that an armed response unit be mobilized. They were having none of this take-a-number nonsense. This was to the annoyance of those of us clutching our precious numbers and within seconds, a fight broke out in the police station.

So, ask me again. Would I hand in a wallet containing £1000?

Hand it in.
I notice that most of the answers are from the young who appear not to be very honest. What a shame.
Everyone assumes that the money in the wallet belongs to the person who lost it, there is an old saying "You know what thought did", meaning in this case, " Oh I thought with that much money, they could afford to lose it", not a thought about the person who lost it, was it theirs to lose? was it to pay for an operation on a pet? was it borrowed money to pay bills? . Money which would not have been yours and you would not care, how sad.

I'd hand it in to the police and get a chitty for it... If its not claimed, its yours.

I found a wallet in school once. I showed all my friends and spent all the money. Turns out someone nicked it and stashed it where I found it. I got it in the neck as they accused me of stealing. I managed to prove where I was when it was stolen so got off with it. I had t pay the money back though. Must bring bad luck.

I found a purse with over 200 credit cards, DL, personal checks and about $300.00 cash. I UPSed it to the woman and she sent me a really nice card and a Lord and Taylor gift certificate for $500.00. So i would say sometimes it pays to be honest...

If you lost a wallet with £1000 in cash in it, would you expect somone to hand it in? Bullshit exactly, have a nice weekend with your new found spends!

If it had an ID in the wallet, I would contact the owner and give it to them.

If it had no ID, why would I hand it to the police? They'd probably take the money themselves.
