hello justine firstly are you having problems with your periods and it is to regulate them for you or are you sexually active if so the injection would be you best bet as you might forget to take the tablet and run the risk of pregnancy if you are sick or have the runs on the pill rendering it useless but still if you are not with you regular b/f use a condom as you wont know what diseases they might harbour good luck anyway whichever you choose

That would be up to you - the pill is a good idea if you are having sex or have really painful periods. Some can even help with bad skin. If neither of these apply I wouldnt bother as it only takes a week for the pill to start to work as a contraceptive.

However the pill can have side effects too (although most people do not suffer). It must also be taken every day at about the same time or it will not be effective. You can always ask your doctor the details. (remember the doctor talk about this kinda thing every day so they wont bother even if you feel embarassed)

But if you partner has been sexually active before ask him to get checked out just in case (some STD`s like Chlamydia have almost no symptoms but can cause infertility). You could also ask you partner what he thinks about you going on the pill - but if you not comfortale talking to him about this kind of this then your probably not ready to have sex with him. General sex is better when you trust your partner ( for women any way )

Anyway back to the original point its your decision not your mums

Didn't read all the answers but Jude's is a good one. It seems a funny sort of mum to me who wants her under-age daughter on the Pill. In my opinion, you dont have sex 24/7 so why would you want a contraceptive 24/7. Use condoms, then you won't catch anything else from your boyfriend. Get into the habit of using condoms if you must have sex so young. Boys of this age are not faithful and this one or the next or the next will probably be screwing around and will give you something. Chlamydia can affect your fertility. Find out as much as you can about all these things BEFORE you start having sex. Also did you know that the Pill can affect your libido, as well as making you gain weight etc. Use condoms, the Pill is not suitable for someone so young.

The birth control pill is great. It will make your period normal and keep you from getting pregnant if you are sexually active. But nothing is 100% so you can still get pregnant. I think birth control is 99.9%, you can check into it. Also for the birth control pill to work to must take it at the same time every day. NEVER miss one. When I was on the pill, I lost 20 lbs. because I threw up everyday. The pills made me sick. So my doctor changed my kind to a different brand pill. I also did the patch for a while. I don't recommend it. But I was on the pill for a couple years. I just couldn't remember to take it. I have the IUD now. I love it. The pill could also help shorten your period and make it light, instead of heavy. Less cramps too. You know I believe they are a god send. LOL Especially the IUD.

The best people to speak to about your situation are - 1) your Mum, aske her why, and listen to her properly, she cares about you, 2) your local family planning clinic. They usually have some kind of teenage clinic, and should be able to answer your questions.

It is likely your Mum is concerned about you becoming sexually active with your boyfriend, (5 months is a good time to have a boyfriend at your age) but you will need to take more safety precautions than the easy pill, i.e. condoms - to protect you from diseases, if you were to go down that road.

You can go on the pill without your mother's say so, as long as you understand why you want it and the risks as well as the benefits.

If there is a possibility of becoming sexually active in the near future you will need to have a serious chat with your boyfriend about what he wants/expects and understands is his responsibility in your relationship with him.

Your Mum obviously cares, and probably is her way of giving your relationship her blessing, but do have a serious conversation with her before you do anything more.

Good luck and play safe.

It is better to wait to have sex!

The side effects of the pill and the injection are aweful and can be long term. At the age of 15 you really don't need to be having sex. Taking the pill or injections can effects your long term fertility. It would be a shame to risk having children in the future for the sake of sex now. Also taking the pill or having injections increases the risk of you getting breast and /or cervical cancer later in life.

There is also the issue of STD's that needs to be considered.

Have some respect for your body (and ask your boyfrend to have some to!). My husband and I got married last year and we didn't have sex before marriage. If your boyfirend really loves you he will wait.

I went on the pill at 16 and to be honest I would say unless you're sexually active dont. I've also been on the depo provera injection and it's fine but it can stop your periods. If in doubt go to your local family planning clinic who can talk to you and find out the best course of action.

Well if you are sexually active it might be a good idea to get on the pill so you don't get pregnant when you don't want to be. You should talk to your doctor about all the side effects of the pill first.

If your sexually active or planning on becoming sexually active then i would recommend it. Go to your GP or family planning centre where they can give you advice on what pill to go on. I wouldn't recommend the injection as this is usaually given to women who have had children and who are always to busy to remember to take the pill. The injection can muck your periods up quite alot.

I went on the pill when I was 15 and stayed on it for 13 years and have no regrets at all. It stopped me from getting pregnant, and as soon as I came off it I got pregnant very easily.
