This Moderate Liberal is against gun control in any form. The 2nd Amendment to the Constitution was part of the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights was for THE PEOPLE. The second amendment has nothing to do with the National Guard, State police or such.
Over the last century our 2nd amendment has been eroded by both parties because of the threat of an "armed populace". Once you disarmed the people, the government can do whatever it wants to the people.
Plus gun control only effects law abiding citizens. Criminals do not obey the law, therefor will not obey the laws for banning guns. All gun control laws do is make victims of the people to criminals.

"This year will go down in history! For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration! Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future!"
Adolf Hitler, 1938.
Personally, I feel that unless you are a convicted felon, or clinical phychopath, the constitution should apply. I myself own several firearms, and have NEVER had an accidental firing. I was brought up with guns, and proper instruction is the key to gun ownership. I feel that when a government trys to outlaw guns, it makes it easier to control its citizent. George Washington said the following "A man with a gun is a citizen, a man without a gun is a subject"
Freedom in this nation was won by the stregnth, perserverence, determination, and courage of its citizens. Do you think for a second that is the colonists were unable to defend themselves, that the Brits would have allowed us to be a free nation?
Some people, no doubt, should not be allowed to carry or own a weopon. But for the average law abiding American, there is NO reason to deny us of our freedom. The day the citizen is deprived of thier guns, is the day that the people cannot defend themselves. The Declaration of Independance even says that when a government becomes so powerful, that it is the duty of every American to cast of such government in favor of a better union.
Gun registration became the policy of the Austrailian government a few years ago, under the pretence that the people would not be stripped of thier guns. After the government figured it had managed to register all the guns it could, the military was sent out to collect and destroy as many of the registered guns as they could. Shortly after, the violent crime rate spiked to an all time high. Later the Ausies admitted that this was due to the criminals having an easier time to find unprotected victims.
I know that the eutopian society sounds like a wonderful idea, but in reality, there is no such thing. From the dawn of time, people have killed eachother, and that will never change. Wouldn't you want to be able to protect yourself and loved ones?
I will leave you with a quote from 'All in the family"
Meathead-----Archie, do you know how many people are killed each year by guns?
Archie-----Would you feel better if they was all pushed out a window?
I hope I made a few points, and hope that my logic doesn't get bashed by too many people. Oh, and if you are going to get your gun control information from celebrities, just remember that most of them have bodyguards. And those bodyguards for the most part carry guns.
Freedom isn't free! God Bless America!

As a gun owner I believe in following the law.
But understand....
I personally believe there is no need for additional gun laws.
The only ones that would profit from gun control are criminals. The same criminals that ignore the current gun laws , have ignored gun laws in the past and will ignore future gun laws made.
How about enforcing the laws on the books? Like the greatly touted --- five year mandatory prison sentence for "carrying" a firearm, even if the weapon was not immediately accessible to the criminal. (Supreme Court Broadens Gun Law June 8, 1998)

I am strictly against any kind f gun control or registering guns or?? read history, the first thing the authorities did was to have people register their guns , then when they had all or most guns registered they sent the police r military to take such guns so they could take over the people without a problem try asking , Poland , Yugoslavia , or any of the Baltic countries or Finland
Romania,or???? either the people who want gun control or registering of guns don't know history or are communist or stupid, and will tell yo how many kids have been killed with guns, what about bath tubs? or criminals with guns, How many criminals do you know who would register their guns? arguments for gun controll is a evil America does not need.

The first guy who answered covered the basics, but the truth is other than making it so a known convict can't get a gun legally gun control is utterly useless. They banned handguns in the UK and gun crimes with handguns shot up 30%. Its like my mom always says: Lock only keep the honest people out. In other words if you do want to do something bad with a gun, your gonna find one or make one (not that hard) and do it. Gun control on the whole doesnt work.

I am currently writing a speech with the angle of being Pro Gun. I myself grew up around guns. I was involved with historical reenactments. My mom started doing ROTC in high school and later joined the military. She passed her love of the sport on to me. During our historical reenactments I learned gun safety as well as propper shooting techniques with period model guns of the time. As I grew older I explored newer firearms. I would like to point out that as a child I was shown demonstrations of what gun fire does to different things (soda cans, wood, and various other items). The point of the demonstration showed me, my brothers and other kids that guns are not toys. The problem lies in the fact that not all people don't properly educate themselves or their children. Proper education won't stop all gun related accidents or crime. But at least people won't still be left thinking that it's a game like in the movies or in video games. As far as kids and guns goes: educate them. Spend time with them. If they are going to bring a gun to school and shoot someone, there are a lot of things wrong in that childs life other than the fact that they are planning to shoot someone.
I think that gun ownership should be regulated, not banned. I think it's been rediculously wrong of other governments to require gun owners to register their firearms and then confiscate their firearms there after. I dont think criminals should have guns available to them. They will find a way to get one if they really want one though. People should be required to take safety classes and learn how to properly use the firearm(s) that they posess. That's what being a responsible gun owner entails.
Gun Control will make some people angry and some people happy. Conversely you end up with the same results. Not everyone will be happy with one or the other. Why don't we worry about being safe before we jump to parranoid conclusions?

Not control as much as precaution. Fingerprinting and checking the background record of gun owners makes enough sense, there's no need to all out take guns off the shelves.

Guns don't kill people, stupid people with guns killl people, and the people that we need to be worried about getting and using a gun, are people that could care less about the law and would not make adifference no matter what the law says!
