I'm sure many people will answer Mariah Carey or Madonna. While Mariah Carey has sold more in a shorter period of time, Madonna has been around longer, and thus she has sold more than Mariah has. Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, and Janet Jackson's sales are all behind those two (Celine Dion being relatively close to Mariah's 230 million sold.) Madonna has sold a total of about 275 million singles and albums sold worldwide.
You know what is funny, though? There are two people left out here that have outsold Mariah, Whitney, Janet, and Celine Dion and have about the same sales that Madonna has.
The first of these is Russian songbird Alla Pugacheva. She is one of Russia's best selling acts ever, but she is not well known in the US (which is why she probably was not added to this list). She has sold about 250 million albums/singles worldwide.
The next of them, which is the REAL best-selling female artist of all time, is Nana Mouskouri, a Greek singer. She has recorded over 450 albums and 1500 songs, and all of those were recorded in 15 languages! She has raked in more than 300 platinum/gold albums worldwide, which brings her sales total to 300 million singles/albums sold worldwide.
You could say Madonna is the most successful female artist of all-time, but the true best-seller is Nana Mouskouri.

Mariah Carey...she got lots of awards for best-seelling female artist!
I love her until today. She's got looks, boobs and most of all, VOICE! She's such a strong lady and bounce back when she was dropped by her record label, Virgin and one of her album flopped. She's the real diva!

I just saw it yesterday on t.v access Hollywood or one such show it is the one and only Lady Madonna , with her last tour she beat out Mrs. Federline and what a show it was ! she was awsome
