“Rally Mohawks! Bring our your axes and tell King George we’ll pay no more taxes”
This was chanted by the American colonists who raided ships full of taxed tea.
In November 1733, a ship carring British tea arrived in the Boston harbor. Soon after two
other ships arrived. Many colonists demanded the ships to leave. But Governor Thomas
Hutchinson refused to let the ships depart without the tea duty paid off. So on the night of
December 16, 1773, colonists dressed as Mohawk Indians and boarded the ships, one of which
was named the Dartmounth. They threw $75,000 worth of tea into the Boston Harbor. Admiral
John Mortague, commander of the British ships, observed the around 100 colonists, including
Samuel Adams and Paul Revere, dump the 342 crates of tea into the Boston Harbor. Nor did he
or anybody else try to stop them.
The Boston Tea Party happened because of the tax on the tea. There was tax on the tea
because in June of 1967 Parliament passed the Townstand Acts, which placed duties on imported
goods. The duties were suppose to pay for military costs and salaries of colonial governors.
Colonists thought that the new laws were illegal because they broke their constitutional rights.
Then in1770, the Boton Massacre took place. This made the Parliament repealed almost all duties
on goods except on tea. Finally, in 1773 the Parliament passed the Tea Act to help the Indies out
of financial debt. It hurt the colonists businesses, which led to the Boston tea party.
The Boston Tea Party is a very important part of the American Revolution. It help the
colonists fight for their independence from the British. For those colonists that weren’t on the
ships on Deember 17, 1773 they sure missed out on a great “party.”

The Boston Tea Party was a direct action protest by the American colonists against Great Britain in which they destroyed many crates of tea bricks on ships in Boston Harbor. The incident, which took place on Thursday, December 16, 1773, has been seen as helping to spark the American Revolution.

The colonists threw a lot of tea into Boston Harbor. It was done because the British levied a lot of taxes on them.
