I understand that Disney now has a better way of handling Fast Pass options?

I don't know what you mean by "Disney now has a better way of handling FastPass options." As far as I'm aware Disney's FastPass system still works the same. You insert your theme park ticket into the FastPass kiosk, a FastPass ticket will be dispensed, as well as your park ticket - a time period for when you may return will be on the FastPass ticket. If it says "5:15 to 6:15" then you may return at any time within that hour.

Keep in mind, only a limited number of FastPass tickets are dispensed each day so get one as early as possible. Also, FastPass doesn't always help you get on a ride faster. In fact, on Soarin', most Cast Members will tell you that you'll likely wait in the FastPass line just about as long as would wait in the Standby line.

I haven't heard of "new options" for the fastpass. However, I have never even used one. I usually go in September (crowds are small) and I have never had to wait more than 15 minutes to get on a ride.

Another option that we often use where available, is the "Single Rider Line". Some rides have a seperate line for one person to be admitted at a time. We have used that line (group of 4) and we all get to ride the attraction much quicker, we just don't get to sit next to each other. I realize this wouldn't be an option if you have small children with you, but for larger kids and adults, it is a great timesaver. You all go in the same place, enjoy the ride, then meet at the exit.

I am leaving on Sunday for a week of Disney fun!! I can't wait!
