I do wash mine and when I dry it I put in a few clean tennis balls. This will help disburse the down again. I have also let it air dry and then tried to shake it out after. But have worked but I like the dryer better. My comforter is pretty big and I don't have much room to hang it. Just read the directions on the tag. I believe mine did have washing instructions but even if it didn't I have never taken it to the dry cleaners and I have had about 5 of them in the past. I have always washed them. You can manually wash it in your washing machine if you are worried about it. One the drying side you may need to go back several time to re-adjust it in the dryer. I put mine on low heat also. Good Luck-Have a great day.

Add baking soda to laundry detergent, wash through normal cycle, soak in fabric softner for 30 minutes, Dry in dryer so the feathers totally get dried. This might be what is causing the odor.
good luck

Wash it again... but put in 2 scoops of OxiClean. Then let it soak again... then I'd recommend using DRY baking soda (for one full day) and let it soak into the DRY comforter somewhere.. then let it air out outside. Then beat the thing to take the baking soda out (like beating a rug clean). best of luck. without being able to get at the inside at what is making it smell in the first place... that's the best I can think of.

funny you should ask that question, I just put my in the dryer. The reason why its smells is because all the feathers were not dry, you have to dry it 4 or 5 times, the feathers stick together inside, you might even have to fluff it and put it back in the dryer. Its dry on the out side but inside it needs alot of dry time.

If the vinegar doesn't work try febreeze (allot of it), if that doesn't you may have destroyed it. It is hard if not impossible to get rid of a musty, mildew smell (assuming that is the smell). I poured frebreeze on my sofa cushion that had a bottle of beer poured on it and the smell disappeared. This was after trying several other things.

Try a box of baking soda to wash it in. Or is it your water causing the smell?

Use fabric sofener in the rinse cycle. WHen the rinse cycle starts, add the liquid softner and move the comforter around so that the softener spreads around.

You can rewash it and then you can try tomato juice or you can/could try water and vinegar.
