Your friend is wrong.
Your brain doesnt hit the skull if you shake your head, thats exactly why all the fluid is there.

Now, if you were in a car accident, where the car stops very quickly from highspeed, then yes, your brain would hit your skull and depending on the impact it would get swollen and you could die.

Depends on how hard you shake your head. If it is hard enough to give you a concussion like in a car accident or sports injury, your brain may hit your skull in severe cases.

But, just shaking your head around won't allow your brain to hit your skull or you would have severe brain damage from the bumps and jolts of everyday life.

If you shake your head in a normal fashion, then no, cerebralspinal fluid sourrounds the outside of your brain, it also fills the open ventricles within the brain. It acts similar to the amniotic fluid sourrounding the baby in that it acts as a cushion duing slow movement.

I have had concussions from being hit in the head. i am not sure just shaking your head would cause your brain to hit your skull. I know from news reports the mossad use shaking as a form of torture on palestinian suspects and from persons who have experienced severe shaking it is supposed to be excruciating.
