Unfortunately the media has a lot to answer for here. It promotes the ideal face, hair, body, skin as being the only way to be, and this is why so many people have issues with the way they look.

Beauty is so subjective - different people think different things are beautiful, different cultures think different things are beautiful.... I agree that we should all accept ourselves as we are but when you are stuck in a society where everyone tells you that you are ugly, how can you make it seem so easy to keep yourself from believing it? There are whole fields of expert thought that maintain that our identities are shaped by others in a large way - not entirely, but a lot. When we are younger, we have no knowlege of what might be an alternative to the messages we are recieving and unfortunately, sometimes the messages we receive aren't healthy. I am decent looking - not drop dead gorgeous, but attractive - and I still struggle to feel totally accepting of my body. I can't imagine what it would be like to be what most of the society I am in considers to be ugly and unattractive... So in the end, if you are proposing that people stop letting others' negative opinions of them affect their self image, that is easier said than done and you are fortunate if you don't have any issues with this

I agree with you completely but unfortunately not ALL people can do that. Some have been put down from childhood one way or the other. When you hear things over and over you start to believe what you're hearing.
Others just honestly believe they are fat, ugly, etc. It's like a sickness.
Advertising doesn't help the situation either.
There are those that just want attention but like you I believe there is something good and beautiful in everyone.
Let's hope your comment helps some of them.

Depression is sadly very common in this day and age. Also alot of lonley people who depended on themselves to judge if thier beautiful or not, and they end up hating themselves. I take it you are religious? I personally am a cynical atheist (would loved to be proved wrong.)

although i fail to see the question in this...i agree with you.....some people say those things about themselves mainly because they say "well...look at that girl...she is getting all the attention because she is prettier than everyone else...i wish i was like her" and people who think like this have trouble finding their beauty inside that is hard for the to bring out. and then all this makes them stressed emotionally which causes them to think wrong...and i've typed to much.....ok...thats enough...sorry....
