Every once in a while I'll be typing something on the computer and it takes a couple of seconds before the words show up on the page. Why is this?

There might be something wrong with your computer, or if it is slow then it may take longer to send the signals that you have pressed a key on the keyboard to the computers processor (brain). My advice would be to get a new keyboard if you have the money! If the computer is slow its processor might not be able to handle to many programs at once so you may need to close some programs or get a new computer altogether. (I would try this is getting a new keyboard fails as the keyboard is CHEAPER than a NEW computer!!)

More than likely there is nothing wrong with your keyboard. It is probably your computer itself because it only occurs sometimes. If your computer is prosessing to much or if you have a slow/old computer, there will be too much running through the processor. Try exiting some programs out of the bottom right of your screen or eliminating start up programs. Better yet, get a faster computer

Good luck

.
This problem occurs when your CPU is maxed; and/or too much demand on your ram.
That is why it only happens once in a while.

You can remedy this "lag"
by either closing program(s), or application(s), currently running.

Note that if you close an application or program BEFORE it totally loads, sometimes it is left in memory still taking up CPU usage.

Either go to your Task Manager and close some programs you see running,
or Restart your computer. Remember to save your work first.

Another remedy for this solution
is to either increase the size of your virtual memory allocation if you have a good amount of free hard drive space;
or add more ram physically.

I agree with Red, also, if it is a USB keyboard, try deleting the driver and let Windows XP reinstall it for you, or just check your USB connections, maybe take 1 or two USB devices offline to see if it is a power drag, too many USB devices on one hub will cause problems.

It's probably just worn out and getting old. Replacement keyboards are cheep and an easy alternative.

there is no problem with your keyboard
the problem should be with your computer resources. you might want to check your system memory, it might be running low or you have too many operations running right now. Ü
