An Ipod Nano is an MP3 player. There are many companies selling MP3 players. The Ipod cost more because everyone wants one for no other reason except that it is an Ipod. There are cheaper brands that have built in FM radios and that will record voice.

Well... an MP3 player and an iPod nano are pretty much the same. But when you upload a CD on iTunes or something, the MP3 file is formatted to a more compressed format to allow for more free space on the nano. I'm guessing the reason why they're so expensive compared to other MP3 players is the functionality and how easy it is to use. It's more of a marketing tactic than anything. iPod has become so popular that people will pay for it. It's just popular.

Videos, smaller, and popularity
Apple made it a smaller format, making it small enough for you.
Apple also put on videos, letting you place videos, pictures, music, and games on an ipod.
When they advertised it, it was not that much. The popularity goes up, increasing the price
