a)

i) 9n
ii) 30-n
iii) 5*(30-n)
iv) 9n + 5*(30-n)

b)

i) 9n + 5*(30-n) = 174
ii) 9n + 5*(30-n) = 174
9n +150-5n = 174
9n-5n = 174-150
4n = 24
n = 6
iii) = a ii) = 30-n = 30-6 = 24

Actually I quite enjoyed that... haven't done **** like that for 30 years!

EDIT: Which may explain why I got it wrong first time! LOL!

if n= no. of adults ,
m=no. of chidren

then n+m=30 {total no. of people who went to theater}
so n=30-m-------------------------(1)
total cost =$174

that means 9n+5m=174 --------------(2)

replacing the value of n in equation (2) we get

9(30-m) +5m=174
270-9m+5m =174
4m=270-174

no. of children is m= 96/4 = 24 is no. of children .
so no of adults is n= 30-m = 6. replacing values of m and n in (2)
i)cost for adults is 6*n=6*9 = $54 ;
ii)no. of children is m=24 i.e 4n .
(iii)total cost for children=24*5=120.
iv) total cost to the theater =174 = 29n .

the rest u find out u r self.

a)
i) $9n
ii) 30-n
iii) $5x(30-n)
iv) $9n + $5X(30-n)

b)
i) 9n + 5x(30-n)= 174
ii) => 9n + 150 - 5n = 174
=> 4n = 24
=> n = 6
iii) => Children = 30 - n
=> Children = 30 - 6
=> Children = 24

a(i) $9n
a(ii) 30 - n
a(iii) $5(30 - n)
a(iv) $9n + $5(30 - n)
b(i) $9n + $150 - $5n
b(iI) $4n + $150 = $174
$4n = $24
n = $24 / $4 = 6

(a)
i) 9n
ii) 30 - n
iii) 5(30 - n)
iv) 9n + 5(30 - n)

(b)
(i) 174 = 9n + 5(30 - n)
(ii)
174 = 9n + 5(30-n)
174 = 9n + 150 - 5n
174 = 4n + 150
24 = 4n
6 = n
(iii) 24
