THE BEST WAY YOU KNOW HOW

How do you do this? It is done by setting up a formula.

The total from installing weather stripping is x dollars per foot. Therefore for installing 480 feet, he gets 480x dollars.

The total from installing insulation is x+5 dollars per feet and he installed 2200 feet. So the total is 2200(x+5) dollars.

Price he charges is expense + profit, so it is
7500 + 11540

If I combine those two formulas, we get:

480x + 2200(x+5) = 7500 + 11540

480x + 2200x + 11000 = 7500 + 11540
480x + 2200x = 7500 + 11540 - 11000
2680x = 8040
x = 8040 / 2680
x = 3

Now, go back to the original statement....
weather stripping is x dollars so it's 3 dollars
insulation is x+5 dollars so it's 8 dollars.
