I am 22 years old. I am on the pill and have been for a few months now. I haven't had sex for a while. I have been taken new medicine called Wellburtrin XL 150mg. I am not due for my period for a few more days. I am having some brown/reddish discharge and not sure if this is normal or if I should go see a doctor. Is it because of me starting new medicine? Or a infection? I started out having a yellowish discharge and then it turned on me just recently. Honest answers please!

Wellbutrin does have the listed side effect of "menstrual complaints" but here's some chat from folks who've used it that you might find helpful. It seems that your period is just starting a bit early, so your cycle might be off for a while. Hang in there if the Wellbutrin works for the prescribed problem :)

In retrospect, it would probably be best to contact your physician because you might need a stronger prescription for birth control pills to keep you regular while using the Wellbutrin...

Generally menstrual problems are not a side effect of Wellbutrin. In a recent drug study less than 2% of those taking more than 400 mg per day had some sort of uterine or vaginal complication. However, you should seek out medical attention as soon as you can. It could just be messing strangely with your cycle, but it could be something a little more serious. Better to be safe than sorry :)

Best thing to do is to consult a physician, especially if there is any odor or other symptoms such as pain, or if the discharge is extreme.

I have heard of people reacting this way to medication, a quick call to your doctor could confirm whether this is possible with the meds you are on and whether an examination is in order.

I think your fine, but if your really worried just pop in to see your doctor or surgery nurse. You could also call your clinic and just ask to speak to a nurse over the phone.

the first thing you should do is just talk to the pharmacist about this . you may find out that the drug is known to cause this and then tell you what to do or not do .
