Do mentos and diet coke explosions really work?

Just wondering. You know,if I ever decide to try it I don't want to be dissapointed! ;]

Yes,

But it doesn't really explode, its more like when you shake up a bottle of soda but in a column.

The more mentos, the more impressive and you have to be sure that there's a lot of carbonation.

Another fun thing that you can do (that deals with the same thing) is put some mentos in your mouth, take a swig or coke and try to keep you mouth closed- lots of fun! (but be sure to open your mouth before it goes out your nose because that really hurts...)

On Mythbusters they did this trick. They showed that Mentos and Coke (any cola will do) causes the bicarbonate to react. This is the same thing that happens when you put baking soda in vinegar. If makes a cool looking bottle rocket but not much else. It wont explode, the reaction just isn't fast enough for that. It will make a big mess though.

The other myth they busted is that if you put enough of them together it will blast you off like a rocket. It would take over 100 of them at once to do this. Not realistically done.

Yes, they do. I watched a video by two guys made a chain explosion out of like 500 coke bottles and lots of mentos.
