Okay what is the big deal? I am Democrat, but do not really like Al Gore. I know about our environment. Why do I need to have him tell me about it. Sorry, I'm venting, because, I am 36 years old and my Stupid step father is upset because I'm no rushing to watch this. He's the antiAmerican type who joins any conspiracy and crams it down everyones throat. I'd love to hear any input.

Yes, I know I can ignore these things, but when it is a constant it eventually gets annoying. When I told him I wasn't interested in Al lecturing me on this issue, he exploded and cursed me out saying I didn't have a choice....that's why I'm so Grrr!

I appreciate all the advice. No I live with my hubby and kids, I merely tolerate him to please my mother, even though she agrees with him, I love her.

Annie, the issue really doesn't appear to be if global changes are happening but why. The movie has some truths to it but the alarmist nature of the movie is a bit over the top in my view and that of many others who have seen it. No doubt we must do what we can within reason to stop adding to a problem, but we also have to be able to reasonably show that us making a change would have an effect and not make decisions in haste that will negatively affect other unless they will make a difference. Not good to go off running and shouting about the sky falling unless it really is falling.
edit: I applaud you thinking for yourself in this matter. Gather all the information you can find, check it out and make up your own mind rather than just fall in line.

Vent away, Annie.
You state 2 questions. Most people are responding to the first question about the "big deal." The other questions why anybody should feel they have a need to listen to political rhetoric. It's related rather much to question 1, but puts the emphasis on the question you imply.
That question is, "Why do I have to listen to the rantings of an armchair politician, gullible beyond belief, who is a bully and thinks he has the right to be a controller and what can I do to make it go away?"
There is no reason you should have to listen to an idiot like that and only one reason to APPEAR you are listening. You may wish to appear you are listening if your step dad is extremely wealthy and will take you out of the will if you disagree.
Otherwise, no.
If you have your own place to live, then absolutely no. You can tell the s.o.b. to "put it where the sun don't shine." Then install caller ID on the phone and not pick it up unless the # is from a friend. You can call home, ask for Mom, and hang up if you don't get her. If he doesn't send a letter of apology soon, return his mail unopened.
If you live at home and need him and Mom to help raise your kids, the answer is still no. If he is your spouse, he is not free to be abusive. Even if he is NOT your spouse, he is not free either to berate, yell and curse you. What you describe qualifies as abuse and there are shelters eager to help people in that situation. The best thing to do is run and not look back.
I would love to recommend assertiveness training. But it won't fix THAT guy.

I understand. My college-age children are bugging me to go see it, too. From my point of view, global warming is not a fact, it is a theory. When Al Gore calls it an "inconvenient TRUTH," and says that there are NO scientists who don't agree with him (when there are almost 20,000 who don't agree, backed up by as many facts as he has), it is clear that he has an agenda. A political one. And that makes the real truth even harder to find. I resent that sort of fear-mongering.
Have you seen the movie "Happy Feet"? A really cute show, until the second half, when they proceed to beat you over the head relentlessly with the Global Warming hammer, making you wish you'd never gone in the first place.

Look 135 years ago the world started collecting weather data, the earth is around 5 Billion years old. All of mankind has not been here 1 percent of that time and the data has been collected for far less than 1 percent of that! trying to determine the worlds weather based on that is like trying to find someone in China and all you have is a glass his granfather drank out of 85 years ago Oh and you do not have the part of the glass his mouth was on and it had been washed everyday since then. get step dad a playboy subscription.

Look, you are 36? no one, including your stepfather, has the right to curse you out for not wanting to watch Al Gores propaganda . You have the perfect right to be liberal or conservative. I love my parents dearly, but they know damn good and well not to try that on me. Nor would they pull a stunt like that. I am 41, and have a mind of my own. Tell your stepfather , you aren't watching a inconvenient fruit, and let the chips fall where they fall. Stand up to him. His cursing you is a attempt at manipulating you into his mindset. He has no right to do that.

I hate politics equally, so whoever they elect as new president or governor or whatever, we're screwed either way because it's the people they choose to be in charge of certain things. Most of the time, they can't control their own life, so why are they wanting to run ours when both the 'crats and 'blicans have a hard life at the same time?

If I understand Global Warming correctly, the result will be a melting of the polar ice.
I also understand that this will result in rising water levels in the oceans.
I also understand that a minor increase will mean a major melt, and that will be a significant rising of water levels.
I also understand that Global Warming is a FACT, because we've had radical increases in temperatures in the past fifty years.
What I don't understand is why Key Largo isn't underwater.
