Bug Bomb.
We had small ants all over the house for years, and had tried a few things with out any noticable effect.
Then we were all leaving for the afternoon, so we used a lot of bug bomb. ( large house, 8 cans ).
First cover food, remove pet food, water dishes, sit bird cages outside, put pets outside. You will have to rewash your cups, pots and pans etc.
There is a small tab of plastic, when you press the tab, it locks into place, and keeps the spary on, so you can place it on the floor and leave.
I cut off the tabs on several cans ( not recommended). This allows me to control the spray like a regular can. I went around the house ( quickly to avoid exposure), and sprayed areas that might get missed. Food pantry, bathroom cuboards, shower, under kitchen sink, closets, under the beds etc.
If you try this method, protect your self, get some plastic bags, and wear them like gloves so you dont get the poison on your hands. Wear full clothing covering all skin, and wrap a shirt over your face to avoid breathing the mist.
I held my breath, but the can takes 2 - 3 minutes to run out, to I needed to go to parts of the house that werent sprayed to get some fresh air.
The ants like water, so spraying under/behind the bathroom/kitchen sinks is critical. Open the closets, especially in the kitchen and pantry.
We then quickly placed the other cans in the main rooms.
I cant recommend spraying manually due to the poision, but it is most effective. There are expensive and cheap brands of the spray. The cheap ones work just as well.
3 cans for $7. Use 6 for the house.
However, the spray is propelled by compressed Propane gas which is flammable, and can explode if you use too much and have a spark or flame.
Be sure to extinguish candles, and dont use near pilot lights ect.
Avoid sparks.
I remember an article a few years back, titled something like " well the bugs are gone", where they used too much bug bomb in a small trailer, and it exploded. Oops.
On the bright side, we have not seen an ant in months.
The poision is derived or modled from natural plant poisions, and should target insects, not people, but the chemicals have toxic effects which are not well understood, and could cause a variety of unknown health problems if you breath or get too much on you.
If you are pregnent, or could be pregnent, dont spray the stuff yourself, get someone else to do it.
Shouldent be a problem, but follow the directions, and be careful.

You need to identify what type of ants they are. Some products won't work for certain types. There are sprays for outside, but there are also baits for inside. Are they mostly near water?
( kitchen sink, bathroom sink). May be ghost ants. Tiny, tiny and will be in a trail along walls, baseboards. There is a bait you can get at most garden centers, Walmart, etc. Make sure it is good for ghost ants. Follow directions. If using bait traps, DO NOT kill any ants, as it will defeat the purpose of the bait. It's really best to spend some $ and get a professional exterminater out. It is worth the $.

Are they tiny and brown and attracted to sweets? We have those up north- they're called sweet eating ants. Clean well and secure all food in containers. Buy bait traps so they can carry poison back to the colony. They do make traps especially for the sweet eating ants. Follow directions on the box and that will help a lot. Also you can try spraying your baseboards with an insect spray. We always used stuff you can buy from the vet to help kill flees in the house- but also will keep your house free of spiders and things like that.
Good luck!

A friend lives in Florida and they use instant grits. Put them down dry, the ants carry them back to the nest for the other ants to eat. When the saliva mixes with the grits the swell causing the ants to die.

Ants become a nuisance when they enter homes. Instead of spending money on costly pest control, you can get rid of ants by removing the food source and using soap water.

try sprinkling a little borax around the foundation of your house, and along any ant trails you find inside. They don't like the stuff

SPRINKLE BABY POWDER ALL AROUND YOUR EXTERIOR OF YOUR HOUSE AND SPRINKLE IT IN DOORWAYS TOO. YOU CAN ALSO USE CAYENE PEPPER ALSO. ANTS BREATHE FROM THERE BELLY SIDE AND IF THEY COME ACROSS THE POWDER/SPICE IT SUFFICATES THEM. THIS MAY SOUND CRUEL TO THE BUG LOVERS BUT IF THE ANTS DON'T WANT TO DIE THEY BETTER STAY AWAY. LOL.

poison spikes outside around the house and bait traps inside around doors, windows and under sinks. they have to take the bait back to the nest to kill them and make them leave. even if you kill them when you see them, they leave a chemical trail that more will follow.
