I had a bad experience on a bus in south London last night. There was a guy raving about how evil white people are and then started yelling at me, calling me a white b1.t.c.h. I was alone and hadn't said anything. I had to get off the bus because I was upset, only to be spat on as I stepped off the bus!
I love London's ethnic and cultural diversity and I wouldn't have it any other way but I can't help but think that if it was a white guy, he would have been arrested before it got to that point? What do you think?

Hatred is hatred and no one of any race should be allowed to get away with that. I think that's the problem people are always willing to put a race on hate, hate is hate black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Indian it's all hatred. I am a black woman and had I been there at the bus stop I would have been just as offended by you being verbally attacked by a black man as I would have been if a white man were saying these things to me. God Bless you and I apologize for his ignorance.

host consciousness:

Not a pleasant experience.
Verbal abuse and threat of violence not funny regardless of skin colour. Your action was correct. Get out of the situation.

As regards would he have been arrested if white?
Well, probably not. A study of the prison population shows that the ethnic minorities are disproportionally represented. I know this opens up another whole can of worms. The point I'm making is that the police do not have a problem arresting minorities in general. What happened was assault, regardless of racial overtones.

I would report this to the police and bus company.
Spitting is assault, the bus will have some (v basic) CTV. Nothing will be done, but at least your conscience will be clear when he physically assault someone.

I think you can probably count upon finding at least some racist and disgustingly rude people from every race. Just reading about your experience is frustrating! He should have been kicked off the bus for that kind of behaviour.

You definately have a point though, about it being easier for minorities to get off with racist acts like the one you described. People would probably also feel more sorry for you if the situation were reversed and you were a black person while the person that spat on you were white.

I think it's hard for people to understand that even the race that forms the majority of the population can be victim to racism on the part of minorities as well. It's not less hurtful to me to be made fun of because of my race, than it is for someone who is black or asian. The person that you mentioned should be embarrassed about his ignorance, because if white people still felt the same way about his race, as they used to, he would probably have had to be sitting at the back of the bus. Our society has evolved and for some minorities to take on the same racist views that we have worked so hard, and continue to work hard to dispell in western society, is just counterproductive, ignorant, and sad.

i do honestly believe this

i have experianced this first hand, i went to a secondary school that was about 40% black stuedents and the rest white

if any of the white children said anything bad about a black person tehy wud get detention and often suspended, but the black children spent most of the time insulting white students untill they insulted them back, then got them in trouble

i even heard one of the teachers saying ' ...i know but there is nothing we can do, if we try to punish a black child we will be called racist'

i hated that place for that, the whole school was practiacally run by the minority knowing that nobody would dop anything about it

one boy even wrote a list entitled 'people i want to kill' and every single white boy in the year was on the list

now if that isn't racism nothing is

Yes I truly believe that. I work in a heavily ethnic area, I am caucasian. It is vitrtually impossible to go anywhere without being "singled" out and before anyone can say anything about "pay back" I was not around during the time of slavery and I have NEVER singled out a person due to their background or color. And this thing of racial of intimidation stinks. Seems like some of the people, like your guy on the train, were the same people saying lets live together. Yep, things change. What is weird is had that guy on the London train been Islamic he might have been tossed. Seems to me we just move prejudice around like chess pieces. NEXT....... Oh and for the guy below, Drydream...I am a liberal...an educated one...wish you were...not a liberal...just educated. SHE IS RIGHT TO BE UPSET.

wow... what a horrible experience! obviously that guy was mentally ill...I hope you do what he is not capable of doing , not holding individual bad experiences against an entire race.. all racist behavior is sick and should never be tolerated ! I am also sad to not hear you mention about any one on that bus helping you! I don't know if he would have been arrested quicker if he was white, I would hope not because that would also be racist. in either case the person is mentally disturbed! everyone has had racism directed at them at one time or another and it is a very hurtful thing. I hope you never experience it again, and wish we could eliminate it from our world!

Wow, sorry to hear of your bad experience. I really think you were the victim of hatred because you were a woman alone, not just because you're white. I don't think that coward would have picked on a man. Haters are usually cowards, and they come in all colors. You did the best thing---and hopefull you got to safety fast. Thank gooness you are safe.

Racism manifests itself while there's a member or individuals of a minority race being victimised based on the colour of their dermis with the aid of a member or individuals of a majority race in any single united states..as a result racism applies to perpetrators of such behaviours against the non white inhabitants the place the white inhabitants is greater in numbers.A minority team, with the aid of definition of the origins of racism can't be racist against a majority team.they could be classed as being prejudice in the event that they have been to be behaving interior the comparable way. a brilliant style of human beings do not understand the real definition of racism and its origins.

Thats the price you pay when you let in every single person from the 3rd world into that island. Don't get me wrong I love England but that stupid Labour government really has managed to stuff it up a bit with their liberalism and tolerance of everything, even at the expense of the citizens of the UK.
You see if anything was done about this minority-guy then it would be racist. Thats the way it is in the PC UK.

Start voting for the Tories and a change might start happening, hopefully.
