What is emo?

I was wondering what it meant beacause my peeps call me emo.

A little hard to explain.
First there is the music.
My Chemical Romance basically started the whole emo music thing. So if you listen to MCR or the like, that's emo.

Second, there's the style and social set.
Girls usually wear tight pants, wrist bands, etc. It's almost like a punk look, except everything is tight and their hair is swept over their face. Same for boys, only they may sag their tight pants a little. And black rimmed glasses is classic emo.

Third, there's the actual mindset.
Emo comes from sad people. So just because you listen to the music or have the style doesn't really make you emo. An emo person is someone who, usually a normal life, but look at it with a negative view point. They emphasize mishaps and troubles. They feel alone. It's almost like depression, only it's not. Depression is a whole 'nother story. Some emos actually have depression.

emos are a group of people that are similar to goths (except more emotional), they wear alot of black, tight jeans and a tight usually black hooded zipped jumpers. they listen to alot of pop punk and gothik music.the classic Emo fringe covers alot of the face usually just to one side. converse, one of the many types of footwear where worn by emo's.
not all emos cut themselves, but alot do.emo is short for Emotional. They also cry a lot. Emo kids want to be different and don't follow mainstream like most people. They strive to be different. It is a genre of music which has been around since the 1970s and is not a trend just coming in They are mostly depressed and hate the world and everyone in it

Well, this is a person that is really depressed and listens to really depressive music, cut him(her)self, thinhks about death, most of the time he/she is dressed mostly in black, white or black(STRIPES!!!) and that person can't really fit in the society because he/she is convinced that he/she is different from all others and just can't be understood.Some, of course, can get better or even stop with it but it takes a long time and a lot therapies. It is a mental state that affects persons lifestyle, beahving, dressing, music listening and so on. Because I doubt you really do those things I think your "peeps" are just kidding.

Emo is one of 2 things.

1. It is a genre of music. Basically depressing punk music.

2. Its a style. Dark clothes, dark makeup, depressing attitude.

examples: Jared Leto from the band 30 seconds to mars is Emo

people who cut them selves, gays, guys who wear girl pants, guys who wear eye liner and many many other things are considered emo.

a very annoying musical genre. its melancholic, slightly punkish. the common theme to be extreme angst.

emo kids make grunge from the 90s seem downright chipper.

unfortunately emo kids are mistaken for goths and that annoys us lot.

as of late, emo's been used just to describe anything "emotional"
games, outfits, bla bla bla.

wow i am glad that i can finally explaiN!! lol emo people are cutters. i don't mean that in a disrespetful way, but its true. many people think that they are emo cause of the clothes they wear and the music they listen to. emo people are emo because that is that is the way they really feel! they think that they are not wanted in this world, and if they cut themselves they won't be noticed....people that where american eagle and hollister AREN"T emo. sorry one of my friends thinks shes emo. shes not because she does it for attention! real emo people are trying to be UNnoticed. well i hope i helped you out<3

emo is short for emotional..its a person who wears band tees and tight pants guys usually have black hair and so do girls but the guys is shaggy not long but like neck length long ..they dont wear eyelinner..heres another one edge is pretty much the same thing just they dont drink pop,smoke or do drugs or drink any ahl or eat meat and some edge ppl dont have sex either..and they all listen to a certain type of music..lyk mychemical romance..social code..storyoftheyear.stuff like that hope i helped..

if someone is an emo they cut there selves with razors in the bathroom. guys wear more makeup than the girls and wear their pants. they wear realy tight shirts and have there hair spiked up in bak and strait in front. the girls are pretty much the same.
