I'm not really sure, I think a lot of people up and down the country are giving them the sympathy vote. It is part of the national psyche. The British love an underdog, love an anti-hero, so lots of people are hanging their hats on these two lads.
For what it's worth, I do think they are rubbish, and can't sing that well at all...but credit where credit's due, last night they were fun and entertaining. They had a really good choice of song (500 miles) sung it pretty well and got the audience going. That performance did have a bit of X Factor.
