Hey guys.. in addition to my other question about my apartment thinking about suing over an unpaid debt that I didn't know anything about, I was wondering, back when I rented there, I went home for a weekend and came back to my apartment that had been cleaned, but I did not receive any notice they were entering it. I was wondering if apartment's could do that or if they needed to give you notice first??

You need to look at your rental agreement, it should be listed there. I know that in case of an emergency the representatives of the Owner are allowed to enter your appartment, waterleak, fire etc. Cleaning does not sound like an emergency to me.

You went away for the week end. When you returned to your apartment, the apartment had been cleaned.

Why would you think the management would have cleaned your apartment? If it was filthy, they would have left you a notice and time frame to get it cleaned up and then they would come back and inspect it.

They have to give you written 24 hour notice to enter your unit unless it is an emergency. An emergency is spelled out for you in your lease document.

There is absolutely no way on earth the management would have cleaned your apartment. Don't be grasping at straws to get out of paying what you owe. Don't go to court and tell that story because even the judge would laugh at you.

They went in and cleaned your apartment?? Man, they rock!!

They can only enter your apartment if they give you notice, which is normally 24-48 hours depending on where you are. They can leave the notice tacked to your door though, so you may not have received it, if you were away for the whole weekend, they could have given 24hrs notice on day one and entered on day two. Unless you contact them to advise that you cannot give them access at that time, then they can enter. They can also enter without any notice if there is an emergency like a burst water pipe.

Read your lease or rental agreement. If it is covered then they ar legal. If not contact an attorney, but first check with the property laws in your state they vary.
Was there any indication or cause the landlord had that wuold make him think of abandonment of the property?
