My 6 month old is 17.5 lbs. I am in the process of loosing some weight, but I am carrying extra weight of my own and have constant back pain. When I pick up Oni, I am fine for a little bit, but then I have to put her down. I need something that makes her a little easier to handle, something I can easily use. I have a snuggli back carrier, but it takes so long to get her in it and on my back, and I can't do it alone. Any suggestions?? And any ideas about relief from back pain would be helpful too. Thanks!!

there is a hip seat you can get, its reasonably priced too but im not sure where i saw it it was on the web available for mail order, its a thick belt you wear around your waist with what looks like a triangular cushion sticking out by your hip you just place the baby on it as you would when carrying on your hip but the belt takes all the weight you just support them, which you would do anyway, as long as your child can sit up unsupported its old enough and strong enough to carry on the hip belt, as for back pain its something ive suffered with for years and only recently found out that it was all due to a nerve problem in my neck, it has improved with neck and shoulder exercise and massage, but posture is important when sitting watching tv or relaxing roll up a towel and put it behind the small of your back and keep your shoulders straight, you have to make a conscious effort to start with to stop yourself hunching or balancing on end of seat etc but it comes in the end you dont have to think about it you just find yourself doing it( my neck problem was caused from hunching forward all the time and not holding my head up due to having large boobs and being embarrassed by that )

I would say with genetics your already on your way there lol. But wanting a big baby is not necessarily a good thing. It can lead ot obesity later on in life and complications during pregnancy. But eating fatty foods is not good for you or the child. if anything you should be avoiding those and eating whats healthy for you and baby so that it can grow to the size that it should be and will be regardless of what you do. sorry hon. if you "try" to have a ten pound baby you could be hurting the babe and you.

You might want to invest in a baby sling and/or pouch. This will allow to not only free your hands but it will also shift the burden of the weight off of your back and more onto your shoulders. My wife and I didn't discover these until our second child but once we did they were a lifesaver....or rather a back saver. :)

Here is a link to one website that carries them though I know that there are many more if you do a little looking.

Try yoga, seriously. It'll help stretch and strengthen the muscles in your back, and re-teach you good posture and how to lift and stand. Additionally, it'll improve your upper-body strength,so you don't have to rely on your back so much for lifting and putting down.

Afraid i'm no help with baby carriers, though. Good luck!

Tell YOUR doctor (not peditrician) the problem the doctor will show you ways to effectively pick up/hold your child without causing you pain. There are right and wrong ways to do these things, you're obviously doing it wrong otherwise you wouldn't have pain.

My 8 month old is 26lbs and hates his stroller!

So I feel your pain.

Try an Mei Tai, pouch, or the kind of backpack like a hiking backpack with a frame.

If you strengthen your core muscles (abdominals) it will help tremendously with back pain and carrying weight. Talk to your doctor for tips on exercises.

try using your stroller more...and watch your posture, when you are carrying a baby and while your pregnant your posture gets thrown out of wack...then it becomes a bad habbit....with pain. If your pain continues talk to your doctor, you may need a MRI to see what is going on...
