Tell you what colours you should paint your house in, or that it is a good idea to choose the same colours through out the house, rather than different themes for each room.

I believe the decorator and painter must WORK WITH YOU! These two professionals are on YOUR payroll. I have worked for many years as a model home decorator you can certainly have very different themes for each room the one rule you must remember is to have a common link that is found in each room, which will allow continuity to develop within your design.

Answer number one is spot on.

After applying thousands of gallons od paint,,, I know one thing. The customer is always "right" even when they aren't. If you want Lavedar rooms, with yellow accents, I'll do that. If you can't stand it, after the fact, I'll be happy to change it also,,, for a new billing.

Choice is exactly that,,, YOURS,,, and perhaps as personal a decision as religion or politics?

You mention Decorator. If you pay one to offer advice and suggestions, you should also be able to have input about likes and dislikes. TELL YOU,,, is totally unacceptable.

It's also possible that a "painter" won't offer more than a paint job?

There is no sin in themed rooms, and again, it's really preference, choices, and what you're willing to live with. Those who "follow" trends, aren't strictly making their own choices, and ARE using someone elses opinion,,,much as you are here, today,,, and you can expect there will be no Right or Wrong answers here.

There is good news however,,,SMILES... Paint,,, can be painted over.

An interior designer would suggest a colour scheme, NOT a painter and decorator. They are people YOU employ, to do what YOU want.
If your selling your house, it is advisable to paint all rooms either cream or magnolia. This gives any prospective buyers the chance to see it as a blank canvas, therefore they can see it as they want rather than seeing your personnel mark on the house.

I painted the majority of my house, and i faced this same issue. I decided to choose a theme for the entire house, but that doesnt mean i have to use the same colors for each room. I chose a new mexican desert/uplifting glow colour array for my house, which ended up meaning light browns and whites and soft oranges that worked really well together. My daughters room, however, she insists must be blue, so her room is blue, and it bugs me to death. the entire house flows in and out, but her room is blue! if i were you, try and stick to a constant color scheme throughout the house, it makes the house come together as one and i think you will like it a lot.

It is their job to give their opinions. thats what you hired them for, but the final decision is yours.......They are right about all complementing colors inside. It will look its best and you will feed more harmonious there.
