Natures answer to the Dyson vacuum cleaner, when the event horizon from 3 or more black holes collide, the combined mass is so great it will start to pull in all matter, all energy, and all time. When enough matter is in one place it becomes unstable, and threes a big bang, and the universe and time starts again!

Black holes probably arn´t holes, you can´t have a hole in a hole (vacuum is a holes) They just appear that way because they trap visible radiation like light. Which then appears to be a Hole to us because we view various forms of radiation with out telescopes.

Then some scientists dream up some fantasies about different universes and time travel inspired by the unknown.

In fact Black holes are just very heavy material which due to the mass have a very large gravitational field and suck everything in.

What gets sucked in becomes part of the Neutron star, which adds to its mass.

If you are in a dark forest and can´t see anything because there is no light, do you think a hole has appeared which may take you to anothr dimension??

That's like asking what's the purpose of the ocean. However recent research has shown that all galaxies (including ours) have a super massive black hole in the center which appears to play an integral role in the formation of the galaxy and it's stars. But to imply a purpose implies someone created it. If you're religious you can look at it that way.

Calling it a "hole" is a bit of a misnomer. It's more like a point of breakdown in the laws of physics that defies our scientific ability to explain it.
But "purpose"??...I wouldn't say it's there for a purpose. What it actually IS is an extremely massive star that has burned out and collapsed upon itself due to its high mass. Less massive stars won't become black holes, but if they have enough mass, they can collapse much of their mass into an area smaller than can be measured...infinitely small and infinitely dense...that's a pinpoint at its center, and its called a "singularity"..meaning it's a singled out realm of all our physical laws. Any matter falling into it will rip down to its basics before even reaching the singularity because of its enormous gravity field...not even light can escape it. For an object falling into it, time actually STOPS at the singularity!
The closest thing i can think of to a "purpose" would be that it's something like a recycler of matter. Otherwise, much is still to be learned about them.

A black hole has absolutely no purpose. It's just there because a star collapsed on itself. It's there because of some freak accident.

to eat shredded wheat, but only two at a time, 'cos even the black hole can't eat three.

They are cosmic accidents formed when a star collapses onto itself. No purpose.

Purpose?

What an asinine question.
