My bf is in Afghanistan and the deadline is coming up to send gifts to him. We're going to celebrate Christmas when he gets home in January but I want to send him something. Would cookies and brownies, etc. be too cheesy or should I send something more meaningful and what? I hate shopping for men in general!!

I'd go to carepackages.com and build him a package with various snacks, beverages, and misc items such as toiletries that he probably needs. They have specific base packages for military and you can add some fun novelties to it. That way he knows your thinking of him and he gets a variety of things to keep him going till January.

Send the cookies or brownies with a love letter and a smiley, Christmasy photo of yourself. I think that will be meaningful enough until he comes home. And, oh yes, pray for him.

cookies and brownies + your photo are enough to make him very happy. Do pray for his safety.
