ok...i have no religion....i believe what i want...i guess an atheist? but just by saying that you are not fond of Catholics because too many judge, doesnt that make prejudice?? because you are saying that catholics judge. and that is not true. YOU ARE JUDGING THEM!! just because you are a certain religion, it does not mean that you are something!

Some people use religion for personal strength. Some use it as the ONLY RIGHT answer for everyone, even if some of those people don't follow the same beliefs. I am an atheist (and lesbian) and am also sick to death of fundamentalists (of any religion) telling me what's right or wrong.
I do not understand how one book (the bible or the koran) can be interpreted so many different ways. Some people need religion as a crutch to help them with every thing in their lives. They can't think for themselves. They use their god to fixate on for all the bad things and good things in their lives. But look around-- celibate priests go after children, orthodox jewish men study religion while their wives work a full time job, raise the children, cook and clean the house without any help, fundamental muslims keep their women from most of the work force and covered from head to toe in the hot sun, mormoms marry teenagers and have multiple wives. This is all done by men to women to keep us as second class citizens or in many countries -- property like their mules.
Religion is a very scary thing to me. I was raised to believe in the golden rule--and not to judge others. That was enough for me.
THANKS FOR BEING OPEN MINDED AND CLEAR HEADED.

You say you don't want people to lump all Christians together, but you are lumping all Catholics together. I can understand it if you don't agree with an individuals beliefs, but you don't have to hate on a whole group. I am Catholic and I don't think homosexuality is a sin. Also you can find judgmental people anywhere. I do believe that there are differences between different types of Christians but we should be focusing on whats important, that they all have a love of Christ.

At the end of the day, we are all the same. Young,Old, rich, poor, gay, straight, fat, thin, black and white, our sh*t smells the same. Ultimately, we will end up in the same place. I don't agree with homosexuality, but I will never promote harm or hatred against a single soul. I love what Jesus Christ stood for but I have a problem with most Christian religions. People tend to forget, that every sub-religion, started with one religion. Branches cannot be produced without a seed. I am not anti-Christian, but I live in a world were it is crammed down my throat. Christianity tends to lose its value to you, when everyone is trying to "save" you. The right winged Christian types almost scare me as much as the Muslim extremists do. These "so called" followers get so wrapped up in their religion, that their mind and self thought tends to shut off. The ability to rationalize is gone!Belief's can allow the mind to stop functioning if you take the belief out of its context. I am not a Buddhist, but you never hear Buddhist's getting a bad rap. Friends of mine who are Buddhists, or at least dabble in Buddhism, tends to be very open minded, opened hearted and intellectual. Sorry, I didn't mean to ramble on. I was just thinking about those damn holy rollers! ha ha.

I've been saying pretty much the same thing on here for a while now. I am a lesbian Catholic - the supposedly most judgemental of the Christians - and my whol efamily has accepted me openly and willingly, as has the majority of my community where I work and attend mass. I hate when LBGT people bash Christians but hate when Christians bash them - one group can be just as bad as the other, yet neither side seems to be able to see that. I just want all the hating to stop. There are those of us here in cyber land that are both Christian and gay. It does happen. Those Christians who hate in God's name are going to be really sorry when they die and see all those who lived good lives get into heaven. It isn't who you love, but how you live that makes a difference. (my opinion as a pissed off person who is trying to be herself, not a label.)

I am Lutheran also. (ELCA to be exact... you will know what that is if you are in the USA.) I know that the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church of America) is a little kinder toward gays than most other churches. Gays or lesbians in a same-gender sexual relationship are precluded from ordination. Celibate self-identified homosexuals may be and remain ordained. There is even a Gay Lutheran Church in Columbia, South Carolina.

I know not all Christians are holy rollers, just like I'm sure a lot of glbt people would wish Christians to see that we are not ALL flamboyant, sexual deviants who flash people and children in public parks or restrooms or something. Like you said, there's bad apples in every bunch. This reminds of something Ghandi once said. It basically said to not lose faith in humanity, because one drop of dirty water in the ocean does not make the whole ocean dirty.

Don't worry - hopefully there are enough of us with our own minds to think with, that can distinguish between individuals with bigoted and judgmental attitudes and the rest who are content to live their own faith without harrassing anyone else. I try never to lump people into groups, because I don't like when it's done to me. I prefer to deal with people as individuals, and your previous questions and answers have given me the impression that you're a caring and concerned person, and also a very polite one! I would never turn against someone simply because of their religion.
