Hi, I'm a 21 year old female, and since yesterday afternoon I have had bladder infection symptoms...and I'm sure that's what it is, because I've had a few before. I got some uristat and drank plenty of water and cranberry juice and my symptoms completely subsided for the evening. When I woke this morning though, the pain was back with a vengeance. No medicine is helping the pain, and its driving me nuts! I live in Orange County, California and the only urgent care facilities I know of are affiliated with St. Jude, and I can't go to them because they have a problem with my insurance currently. Should I go to an emergency room, or should I just try to wait this out until I can see a doctor Monday? I feel silly going to the ER for a UTI, but it hurts really bad! What do you think I should do? Is there any other remedies that could help the pain? Do you know of any urgent care places in OC, CA that aren't St. Jude? Thanks for any and all advice.

If you are in that severe of pain, you should seek immediate medical advice, it could be something else. I've also had UTI, but never had that bad of pain associated with it. Go the the ER!

I work in the ER, and the biggest complaint we get is how long the wait/treatment is. And one of the biggest reasons is exactly what you said--people coming in with non-emergencies. We get sore throats, coughs, dental pain, ingrown toenails, vomiting x 1, back pain for 10 years, stupid little silly complaints that they never go see their doctor for, and somehow it becomes an emergency right then and now, and they need a 'script for hydrocodone to make it through the night without dying, if you please. And I can guarantee that 80% of the ones that come in with those problems have either government-provided insurance, or none at all, with no intention of paying the bill. It's highly frustrating, and nothing seems to change. I've tried to help these people by giving them resources--places for free dental, walk-in clinics, free clinics, pain clinics... no, they always come back to take up time and space in the ER. When you can call them back to a room using their first name only and saying "go on to room 3, John, they'll be there in a little bit," and John proceeds to update you on how the wife and kids are, and how much worse the pain is tonight versus last night, it's a problem. I don't know. Maybe I'm just burnt-out. Anyone would be if they had to work behind the scenes and see what it's really like in the emergency room.

I used to get UTI's quite frequently. I started having the symptoms of one and had an on call doctor call in the regular UTI meds. The next day I was in excruciating pain! I went to an urgent care clinic and was diagnosed with kidney stones! The doctor jumped all over me for taking the UTI meds without being seen because they can mask the indicators for kidney stones. I suggest you go to an ER asap!! Even if it is a UTI, its going to get MUCH worse and could lead to a kidney infection or worse which is no fun!

Keep taking your uristat, or try AZO...I find it to be a good product...and do go to the ER if able..unless you can find an urgent care place--should be in the phone book. The problem with sever UTI's is that they can travel and become horrible kidney infections, leading to hospitalization. This is worse case scenerio, but you need some antibiotics...stat!

I know that going to the emergency for a bladder infection seems silly but if you let it go to long it could move up to your kidneys and trust me comming from expieriance there isnt much worse than that you think the pain is bad know wait till a kidney infection kicks in then you will be out of work and in bed for a few days they may even make you take supositories(little things you put up your but just incase you didnt know, I didnt) Go get yourself taken care of.

If you are that uncomfortable go the ER,. It could be a UTI, a bladder infection or worse a kidney infection. there is no reason to suffer especially over a long weekend.

Do'nt fill silly going to the emergency room it looks like you may have to take antibiotics to clear it up if water and, cranberry juice is'nt getting it. And hopefully if this is'nt the case an STD could also cause bladder infection symtoms.

you should go to the E.R. b/c if you don't then you could end up with a worse infection causing more problems...plus why live witht he pain...you probaby have a UTI, left untreated it could cause a bladder infection...if you think your in pain now...wait till you h ave a bladder infection...very very painful....I do not think that you can be refused treatment if they have a problem with your insurance...but I really don't know...well good luck and take care of this before it gets more complicated

I live on the east coast so I can't recommend any places for you to go. However, please do not think it's silly going to the ER for a UTI!!! Those things HURT! Don't wait until Monday, you'll be miserable. You'll be so glad you went if you go tonight. Good luck and I hope you feel better!
