I am South African and I still live here (in Johannesburg). I personally love it here and don't intend to leave this country. The people here are pretty easy to get along with and usually very friendly. The actual country is great too-there is beautiful scenery and great places to go too. There is a crime problem, but if you remain aware and don't let yourself become a victim, you won't. I have been living here for the full 21 years of my life and I myself have never been a victim of violent crime. Come for a visit sometime, maybe you will like it;)

I'm South African, I live in England, I miss SA a lot, but am enjoying everyday here in the UK. I think SA is more friendly and more caring. I've met South Africans here in England and they are the greatest bunch of people. I go out of the city to meet more that I never knew before and they show me the bestest sites in the country.
I love South Africa!!

Without using too rose tinted a window - South Africans are friendly, welcoming people who are proud of their country - warts and all!
And speaking for myself, when I went abroad to live and work I gave myself a deadline and even though this has been an adventure for my memoirs I will be happy to be back in familiar surrounds where people understand my jokes.

Alf do you really think South Africa has the best teams in the world. There is a heck of a lot of crime in the country which is one reason why i have been living in europe and now the USA. Where are you staying? I read somewhere that it was Basra or England

Without going into too much political detail or making immature/insensitive remarks such as "crime is what you make of it", I think jus't looking at what all South Africans had to endure throughout it's history, they (we) are a pretty resilient bunch.
An Afrikaans song goes: "Ons kom mos nou al 'n lang pad saam. Hoe is dit dan dat ons mekaar nie verstaan?" (We've already traveled a long way together. Why can't we understand each other?) The road we've traveled to here is too far to go back upon. We are ALL here to stay and will have to learn to respect each other as fellow South Africans with various traditions, languages, skin tones and cultures. Unfortunately we don't currently have strong and impartial leaders who can or want to make this idea materialize.

My boyfriend is South African (easily Afrikaans) he speaks Afrikaans at domicile along with his mum and dad and that i connect at situations. Maar my Afrikaans is baie sleg! as quickly as we are mutually we communicate English as my Afrikaans isn't desirable and that i'm getting annoyed fairly if i won't be able to say a particular be conscious yet he teaches me nicely and that i'm getting greater effective daily. We met in England yet that doesn't make a difference to what language we communicate, easily i'm no longer fluent in Afrikaans. i assume i'm the difficulty LOL yet like I say i'm getting to understand further and further. If it became into any wrong way around, i might even have needed him to learn my language. i admire Afrikaans, it is basically getting the draw close of it. additionally being interior the united kingdom most of the time the place Afrikaans isn't spoken except you be attentive to South Africans, it is greater stable to become familiar with the language. So while i circulate to SA in December i will try to easily communicate as lots Afrikaans as i can.

Most people don't think of anyone but themselves.
South Africans are just like anyone else.
Unthought of, unless it affects our lives.
Sorry..but true.

South Africans are just the most friendly, best people on the Planet with the most amazing Country and everybody is welcome. They are the Rainbow Nation and there is no racism and no crime. They all live in mansions and drive fancy cars and have the best Rugby and Cricket teams in the World. They are all Proudly South African and they just cant wait to go home to Paradise. At least this is what they tell everyone!
exsaffer2- Sorry I couldn't resist the sarcasm but when you speak to people who have had dealings with some South Africans in the UK this is the impression they are left with. They just cannot see that many are tired of this story and avoid them. It spoils it for the many decent South Africans but this Proudly South African persona is way over the top and given the state SA is in people snigger at them behind their back. I have left Basra now after my tour and back in Borden,England.
