Thanks for the answers. I too have been crocheting for years and have made a lot of Granny Squares. I ran across the book that Sweet Mystery of Life spoke of and I was trying to find out what the Nanny square part of the title was all about. I did a couple of Google searches and got nowhere. Guess I'll have to buy the book. :o)

I also have never heard of a nanny square, though I've been crocheting for many years. I did come across a book called: Granny Squares, Nanny Squares, New Twists for Classic Crochet
It's published by Oxmoor House.
It's available on Ebay for $4 - $10

I've been crocheting a long time and never heard of a nanny square, just a granny square. If you'd like to see how one is made, here's a link that shows how a granny square is made, step by step.

i've not heard of a nanny square..there is a granny square if that's what you mean.....and the pattern is square using doubles as the most common stitch....
