hmm, thats interesting. when i tihnk of americans i begin to think of a few types of people:
- firstly i tihnk of an American business women going around New York.
- Also of a large person eating an equally big hot dog in a food court.
- I think of an exercise addict and a clean-freak who has to have everything perfect in their house.
- Then of a kind of 30-yr-old guy who makes videos and stuff and it generally really nice.
- Then I think of George Bush and hope that no one else in America is that annoying.
I know my answer sounds really wierd but those are a few "typical" Americans that i picture in my head.
Hope this helps and what do you think a "typical" British person is like?

Just come back from 2 weeks in America. San Francisco was lovely, but the hotel staff were lousy, Disneyland California was great, could not do a think wrong. Las Vegas, all the Americans were friendly and willing to help. My overall view, most very friendly and helpfull, those in the Hospitality trade were not(my field), some were loud(southerners of America), but was happy and enjoyed it. People who have not tried America should

i think the british have had many views of the americans....some that i have heard are that generally americans tend to be fat and just eat wayyyy too much....another is that they always think the british all speak the Queen's english when that is certainly not the case....and that they say america is the land of the free and that anyone can be ambitious and reach high goals in america regardless of the colour of their skin yet america is still seen as the place with the most cases of racism in the world...

American stereotype? A Yankee, blue-red striped, hot dog eating, weird accented British wannabe. That's what my British friends say an American is, although I'm not sure I agree...

I'm afraid to say that the stereotypical 'American' is unintelligent, fat and polite but to be honest I have really liked most of the Americans I've met and most were fairly clever. Being a linguist though, I get slightly annoyed with what you do to the language haha... 'erbs for example... it has an 'h' in it!! Nah, only joking!

Most British don't like Americans.
This is because, mainly, of Bush. He has ruined your reputation over here, and "American" has almost become an insult where I work! Keep in mind though, the rest of the world don't like Britain! They don't like Britain or America because of Bush + Blair's "follow the leader". People in Britain are becoming less and less patriotic, thanks to our hopeless government.
Most Americans are really really nice people, but they just seem to think that they're the best people in the world, and far better than the British!

.........sorry im English, not British......
The main thing that grinds my gears about Americans is that they class us all as British!
Other than that they're quite friendly. Although they cant seem to drive, and it's the easiest thing to drive in America with your wide roads and all auto's.
The only bad generalisations that people over here think are that they're quite fat, and that the US government thinks they own the world.

If the truth is anti-American than it isn't the truth, If a lie is wrapped in the stars and stripes and saluted enough times, it becomes the truth.

The Americans I know are warm, kind & gracious, but like the British you have your share of .... over zealous patriots, meaning "we are the best & all the rest of you can go to hell"
