but i think president

Bob Dole was a Senator when he ran for President, so he actually did both. They were about 20 or 30 years apart though, he was one of the Senators for Kansas and decided to run for President against Bill Clinton in 1996.

He left the Senate to run for President in 1996. And he was beaten by Clinton.
