If it was not what I ordered, or how I ordered it then it needs to be fixed.

However, if I tried something new and simply did not prefer it - in other words there was nothing wrong with it - I would just not eat it. There are plenty of things that people like or dislike out of personal preference. Something being "not to my taste" is not a reason to send it back. Some restaurants would insist upon bringing you another dish and only charging you for the one, but I would not request it.

I don't get picky about it, but if it is unacceptable, I send it back. After all, I'm paying for what I order, not a poor substitute. And I tip according to the server's service, not the cook's.

If the food comes out not what I ordered or not cooked properly, it most certainly goes back

I always return it. Especially if my steak isn't done right. Somebody in the back will eat it and be thankful to have a good free meal also.

Yes, I think thats so rude to send it back... if you don't like it then order something else to take home with you and pay for what you ordered people.
