Most of us could not afford Cell Phones, The really good computer games were in arcades and took quarters, they replaced pinball.

Home game systems (Atari) were O.K.

The personal computer made the most difference, and even more importantly the understandable Operating systems and affordable Internet connections that made the computers really come alive and useful.

(Asteroids was my favorite)

I am feeling old now!

Have a great weekend!

i didn't start college until the end of 1989, but i can say for certain that i watched the technology evolve dramatically through my college years and change how i worked. i started college with an electric typewriter and went from that to a word processor and then to a computer. the ability to edit papers while typing them is a huge change. however, many papers were lost during those early years because the computers would short circuit the power supply and we didn't remember to "save" back then.

email became widely available around 1992-93, and that has changed how people in college communicate dramatically. i used to have to see professors to schedule meetings, write actual letters to professors at different schools, etc. now absolutely everything is done through email, and i am even reluctant to call a professor - even an older one who still wants to do things the old fashioned way.

one of the biggest, most recent changes is that journal articles are available on line, and you can do library search on line. you used to have to go to the library and search through a "periodical guide", which is an actual book that is published each year. now i can find journal articles through a university website and then link to the articles on publisher websites. this saves so much time, but also makes me very lazy.

Nope - still too new to have been implemented in our universities. Computer Science programs still used cards and room sized computers. But what made a huge difference in our lives at that time were microwave ovens and VCRs (Beta and VHS).
