Only 17....technically you are a minor and unable to enter into contracts. If you are an emancipated minor then you can, have you finished HS?
Are your roommates 18? Maybe they could sign the lease and you rent room from them.
You might have to get a parent or guardian to sign for the first year.
All that technically being true, there are many places that will rent to anyone, as long as they have $$ in their hands. Look in the paper, drive the area you would like to be in, ask around.
More likely to find something in working class area. Around PB or college most likely find a room at someones existing place.
Usually not the best places however.
Also, January is not the best time to rent. Most leases come due in summer (School and all) So there will be less to choose from. However, those that are there will be more likely to want to rent b/c it is also true it is harder to fill a place in the winter months.
So you might have some negotiating room.

persons under 18 years of age can not enter into a contract and any contracts signed while under 18 years of age have no legal binding.
Wait another year and you can do what you want, where you want and when you want and be able to secure credit if need be. I would check rental prices vs. purchase prices. this way you can build credit, gain equity in your real estate and if you decide to move, you have the opportunity to make cash on the sale due to appreciation of real estate values. Usually rent and mortgage payments are about the same in most areas.

In most states, underage persons can not enter into contracts.
Unless your friends are 18 & willing to put the apartment in their name and assume liability for the lease and all utilities, you're out of luck.
If they do all the above, you would have no legal rights, if they told you to leave, you're out, with little or no recourse.

Look in the local paper for places to rent or look on the internet.
Or look for letting agents.
They might required a letter from one of your parents or an older adult as guarantor for the rent because you are so young.
PS can we share a flat if I move to San Diego??? (joking!)
